“Quiet hotel, with fantastic staff!”

Stayed here the last week of September. The hotel was clean and pleasant, the staff especially the owner were very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The rooms were cleaned daily and spacious, there was nothing that we could fault about our stay there. We were able to park our hire outside the front of the hotel and the beach was about 50meter walk along with the restaurants and bars. We had a lovely relaxing holiday and would recommend this hotel.

“Τα όνειρα Τι έκανε του... (What dreams are made of...)”

My special gal booked this place sort-of at the last minute through a travel agent. We'd never visited Santorini previously and didn't even know about this island until the travel agent came up with this location, and we were therefore a little anxious about visiting there for our main summer hol. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by the ever-friendly and welcoming staff - particularly Vasili the owner (see other reviews) who really couldn't do enough for us over the course of the holiday. If you've read Gerald Durrell's "My family and Other Animals" then Spyros will spring to mind here... What a great guy! We spent the last week in August here and the weather was amazing. We didn't see a single cloud for the first 3 days and actually thought that clouds were barred from this place! Anyway, back to the hotel... Kouros Village is relatively small but instantly likeable - it's small enough to be cosy but not too large to be considered as "commercial". The cleaning staff were excellent (we left the lady a tip at the end because she was so efficient) and cleaned the place from side-to-side every day - even washing our dishes for us which was most excellent! This is also an excellent base location to explore the island, and is removed from most of the more commercial sites that are present on the island (such as Kamari). We used Kouros Village as a base for exploring throughout the week - going out walking along the local beach/village and restaurants or just general exploring. There are many places to eat in the village and on the beachfront - I recommend visiting Dorian's Pub in the village (really good - music a bit variable, although you can spend your night living in the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s depending what they decide to put on...) or going to Yazz bar or N'Tomatini's for food - also try Savvas Popeye. I mentioned exploring the island to Vasili and he recommended renting a quad bike - there are loads and loads of these over the island but my special gal was a bit nervous about this (awww) but we decided to just go for it and it was AMAZING!!! I highly recommend it - go get a quad bike and tour the island; special gal got an awesome tan (and a few flies in yer teeth!!) but go and get yourself lost like we did in the middle of nowhere and then stop at some random watering hole to get your directions. This was awesome! I highly recommend visiting all of the beaches on the south of the island (Red Beach in particular) and get yourself down the insane road to Athinios Port and catch a ferry over to the volcanic islands (we missed out on this because we were too late... D'oh!). Visit Fira (omg it was hot!!) and walk around all of the little streets and stop off for a cool refreshing Mythos whilst watching the sun set at Ia... Go and visit the Wine Roads where they grow really small vines and sell local wine. Oh, and the local wine is really nice!!! From the hotel the view is excellent - you view palm trees and a backdrop of mountains. You can see the highest point on the island (567m) which has a monastery atop of it. We rode up here on the quad bike (quite a trek!) and you can literally see a view over the entire island - don't forget the all important map though!! This place is truly magical, and we'd return tomorrow if given the chance. This place truly is what dreams are made of.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony!

“A little disappointed!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We booked this as a last minute deal as after going to Santorini for our hols for the last four years, we did not think that we would be able to visit our " special place " this year. We chose this hotel as our Travel Agents suggested that it was good value and quiet. We love Santorini and our other hotel / villa/ cavehouse experiences have been fantastic. We spent 7 days there, and made the most of it as our only holiday this year.
We found that the receptionist was fantastic and very helpful but other staff were not so much.
We paid for a double room with a private balcony, but the first room we were allocated, we found very small with hardly any space for our clothing and a hand held shower.....no private balcony! We paid 20 euros a day extra to upgrade to a larger room and after one night in our first room, we were given a studio with a kitchen that we did not need and again hardly any storage space......no private balcony! At this point we could not be bothered to move again. The cleaners were often banging around in the adjacent rooms from 7.30am, in addition to all rooms scraping chairs around at all hours. Maybe rubber to the bottom of chair legs would help!
Gosh.... I am a moaner, but have never had to encounter this before and really feel that people should be aware.
The worse point came on Day 5 of our holiday, when the young " stroppy teenager" breakfast waiter who serves a dozen or more tables on his own each day, was rude to me because I asked him for some hot water for our tea......we had already been waiting 40 minutes for it. This upset our day to begin with, and no apology was forthcoming. He was obviously stressed because the cutlery and crockery were running out constantly, and guests were waiting. He finally got it right on our last day and gave us hot water once we sat down!
The food itself was fine, towels and sheets changed regularly, the pool and pool area were lovely and due to the late season it was fairly quiet. It is close to the beach, bars and shops.
If we didn't love this place so much, this years' holiday may have put us off!

Room Tip: Rooms away from the pool area appeared quieter. Only certain rooms actually have private balconies...

“A quiet, clean, relaxed place - we'd be happy to go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

My wife and I just spent a very enjoyable week at the Kouros. I can only repeat what other people have said about it: It's quiet, pleasant and clean, with friendly staff who genuinely try to help. We had an ordinary room on the first floor with a little balcony, perfectly adequate for our needs, with air-conditioning, a small safe for valuables, a fridge and a bathroom (hand-held shower, though). Most other guests were middle-aged or older, with a sprinkling of teenagers and only a few small children. They came from all over Europe and included some Americans. The pool is a reasonable size - the water is cold, but that was a definite plus in Santorini's hot sunshine, and there's about a dozen loungers and a small pool bar. The breakfasts (served on a sunny roof terrace) were fine, with something for everyone - rolls, bread, cereals, coffee or tea, fruit, cakes/pastries, cheeses, cold meats, bacon, sausages, eggs. The orange juice that some people haven't liked is actually orange squash mixed with water. The fact that the Kouros doesn't serve lunch or dinner is no disadvantage as there are lots of good restaurants and cafes within a few minutes' walk. The street on which the Kouros is located links the beach road and the main road and has some empty, overgrown plots and half-finished buildings on it, which could be off-putting, but it's quite safe even after dark (so long as you watch out for passing scooters and quad bikes!). I would happily go back there again.

“Great hotel and staff and are going back”

We had a wonderful 11 night stay at the Kouros. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and given the rundown about the island, where to visit and eat by Vasilli and he and Foti were a constant source of humour throughout our stay. The hotel has only 30 rooms so is never throbbing with guests and hardly any young children (we were able to leave ours for the first time in 25years at home!) so this was ideal for us, peace and quiet. There is areally good mix of Euro nationals staying there, so you can stay on your own or get to know a number of people as we did. The breakfasts were a very good mix of continental and bacon, eggs, sausages, buffet style with coffee/tea served at the table on the first floor veranda overlooking the pool, which itself is very good size. Most of our time was spent poolside and some mornings or afternoons we had it to ourselves as everyone else was sightseeing or at the beach, fantastis just what we wanted to read and soak up the sun (3 clouds in 11days!) Beds and rooms were cleaned every day and the whole place was very tidy. The hotel itself is on a sort of cul de sac so very little traffic passing by. If you want quiet peaceful hotel it might be the one for you. We loved it.
