“Worst hotel ever stayed in!”

We arrived at this hotel in September 2011. On arrival we were shown to our room. When we opened the door there was a really potent smell of sewage. The balcony overlooked a main road facing a brick wall and was situated over an open sewage pipe. We were unhappy with this room so the manager moved us to a room across the corridor which did not smell of sewage. However, I was really shocked that Thomson rated this hotel as a 3 star. It is more like a 1 star for the price of a 4 star hotel.

The main hotel building where the standard rooms are located was like staying in a prison - dark rooms, dark corridor and the cleaner walking up and down banging doors and jangling keys.

The room was really small, had dirty bed stained sheets, no hot water, dirty toilet seat where the dirt would not come off when I tried to clean it.

I could hardly open the balcony doors as a concrete bed base meant that we had to climb over the bed, open one door and squeeze out - I am a size 10 and I struggled. The balcony had big cracks down each side connecting to the main walls - looked unsafe. Bits of wood hanging from roof of balcony - danger!

The second day it rained and the swimming pool turned green so we were not sure that it was safe to swim in. All round the pool area were dead leaves which were there for days. We saw no one clean the pool in the time we stayed there.

We asked the manager about upgrading to a better room again but were told that one room was available for the following week however we could not book it as the manager would make more money through a late booking deal.

Breakfast was also horrible, cheap, greasy little packaged croissants, yoghurt lumpy and some food I couldn't identify what it was.

Hotel manager, breakfast and bar staff unfriendly.

We were completely ripped off by Thomson. We ended up deciding ourselves to move to another hotel. We just could not stay here. The other hotel we found was a 2 star and was really nice, clean, friendly and a relief!!!!

We had a great holiday once we moved hotels as the area is really nice.

See photos of hotel to make a judgement for yourself about this terrible hotel!

“White wash walls and loft bedroom”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Travelled with my daughters and had a terrific townhouse style maisonette with a bed on the main level and a loft bedroom as well. Small private dipping pool on back balcony was great. Also a large pool and bar at the front of the complex on the main Perissa beach road. The beach is a short walk as are a choice of Tabernas to grab a top feed.

Not cheap, but pretty damn good!

Like a small oasis the Meltemi Village is located along the main road of Perissa.
You never sense the highlife of the mainroad.
The beach is just 5 min walk away.
The service and friendly people working there is great !!!!!!

“Santorini 2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

just returned from our first trip to Santorini. Not your typical Greek Island, not our favourite either, however. The Meltemi village is a hotel with very plush duplex suites at the back. We had room 22, directly behind reception, this side of the hotel looks out onto side street used by locals getting to work etc, so from 7am onwards its noisy. We did ask for a quieter room but place was fully booked for two weeks with wedding parties.
The hotel side is spotless, maid service and clean towels every day, the cleanliness goes throughot the whole place, very impressive. Georgie and Ray on reception are marvellous, nothing too much trouble and very knowledgeable. Anna who runs the breakfst room is great,Peter the manager very friendly too!
Breakfast is a continental affair, rolls, cheese, meat, cakes, etc and is taken beside the pool. The pool is very very shaded by palm trees and you do have to struggle for a sunny spot all day. The Meltemi Club is the bar adjoining the hotel, but on the front off the main road. Adonis, his two boys Stelios and Nikos, and Ali are great fun. Good cold beer and good cocktails. Ask Stelios to show you the ouzo clearing trick! Sky sports and music here every day.
We love eating out so here are our choices.

The beach road is packed with restaurants where you can everything from a very posh meal to a giros, or just a beer.

All the restaurants have a sunbed area opposite on the beach, the week before we arrived they were E15 for 2 beds and parasol, as the Greeks and Italians had left they were now free if you used the bar!!

Atlantis - on the beach, went here twice good Greek food, and free desserts. E20-25 for evening meal for 2 with wine.
Atlas - on main road turn right out of Meltemi. Best music in Perissa!!! Very good Greek food, and a curry night on a Saturday, can be a bit of noise from the road so go through to the back.
Cyclades - end of rd turn left out of Meltemi. Very authentic Greek taverna. Very good food reasonable E20 for 2 with wine free ouzo after.
Gods Garden - turn right out of Meltemi, the left down side street. Very good set menus for 2 very good Greek specials. E25+ for two, always very busy, get there early as they do run out. Free desserts.
Santo Paradise - on beach, best sun beds huge double sized loungers, beach side service, the BIGGEST giros souvlaki and portions I have ever eaten!!!! The special pizzas are amazing. Lovely friendly staff here too! Free internet. Spent most of our days on their beds.
Aqua - on beach nice Greek snacks.
Tranquillo bar - on beach chilled laid back music big cushions on floor, kick back and chill!!
Fusion - opposite Cyclades - cocktails every night, good dance music.
Ntomantini - on beach for a very good meze selection, but the portions are huge, so be warned. E35+.
Charlinas - good Greek food and free glass of wine to boot! E30.
Dorians and Bobs are best given a miss unless you want music from the 50s 60s 70s and to sit with a bunch of bored couples staring into space!!!

Self catering wise there are 3 supermarkets, the biggest the CO OP has good red and rose wine on tap for E2.45 for 1.5 litres, the 24hrs bakery next door must NOT be missed, absolutely wonderful, savouries, pastries, cakes and they will do you a coffee to go!!! The ATM is here too.

Trips - Oia and Fira are a must. Use the local busses. E2.20 to Oia. Dont do the sunset at the castle, walk down past the bus stop on the main rd, to the sunset cafe and if its full get a drink and sit on the wall! Be warned Fira bus station is a free for all on the later busses going onto Oia, so go early. These are however two of the most xpensive places I've ever visited, E14 for a glass of champagne, E12 for a bowl of soup. Go to the middle street in Fira and its cheaper.
Santo Wines vineyard is worth the trip if only for the views, breathtaking!!!

Hope this helps someone.

Room Tip: away from side street, book a suite if you can afford it!!!!

“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Stayed at this Hotel for one week at the end of August. We stayed in a studio opposite the play area. The studio we stayed in was a bit shabby considering the money we paid. However, it was a lovely hotel with a delightful pool area and plenty of sun beds for everyone with air con included in the price. The breakfast was far better than I expected with plenty of choice and good quality food and with the bonus of a really welcoming staff member. Although the hotel was situated on the main road as soon as you entered into the grounds you felt as if you were in an oasis of calm.

The local busses ran every half an hour to Thiri (where you could get another bus to other parts of the island) from outside the hotel which meant that we could get around the island ourselves for only a couple of euros and not have to pay for expensive excursions.

Lots of restuarants to choose from. There were a couple along the main road which I loved - starter, main course and wine for 2 around 21 euros. The ones by the sea were a bit more expensive and the food not quite as generous. Along the main road there was also a couple of bars that served Amstal for 2 euros and cocktails for 3 euros. A bargain.

Perissa is a lovely base to explore the rest of the island, not as commercialised as Kamari. I would certainly recommend the Meltemi, very laid back and welcoming.
