I stayed here for 4 nights in June last year. My room was the top floor twin room facing Fira - allowing views of the caldera as well as the coast line where the beaches are. Really beautiful view for the price I paid. Compared to other hotels in this area, Hotel Sofia is still affordable. I believe I paid around 65£ per night. The room was lovely, spacious. I also liked the roof terrace with beautiful views and the small pool area.
This hotel is perfectly located with restaurants and shopping nearby. The caldera edge is a 15 second walk away. The 10 minute walk to Fira will provide you with breathtaking views of the caldera. Bring comfortable shoes! This is not an island for high heels, even if the posh hotels make you feel the urge to bring some.
Two minus points (or maybe I should call it advice?):
I wish breakfast was included. You have to buy it elsewhere. The restaurant/cafe which is recommended by the hotel is also right next to it, sits on the caldera edge and has absolutely amazing views (Mill House?) while you are sipping your very expensive coffee and eating your very expensive waffles (the 10% discount you get as a Hotel Sofia guest on certain menu items doesn't make a difference). There are other family-run restaurants nearby where you can get a much more affordable, good breakfast (tried and tested!). Just explore the area.
I am afraid to say that the shop (clothes and souvenirs) which is part of the hotel and run by Sofia is absolutely overpriced even for Santorini. I would not recommend buying anything there apart from post cards. You can get everything cheaper elsewhere (also speaking from experience).
Santorini is a lot more affordable than you would think. Just do your homework and compare prices. As a single traveler among thousands of couples I had a blast and absolutely fell in love with the island which I can say is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I hope that Hotel Sofia will have a room available when I come here again with my partner!!!
