“I liked it here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

My boyfriend I stayed here, and it was one of the cheaper places we looked at on the calder side of Santorini. After a bit of a hair raising taxi journey from the port, we arrived and I was very pleased with the hotel and the location (on the main "street" in Firostefani). It couldn't have been more convenient for the eating out etc, and the footpath along the calder edge to Fira, is a great and very easy walk.

The bathroom was a bit cramped and dated, but I liked the more traditional style of the building and the balconies were great for a beer after a day's hard sight seeing. There is a small pool and area for sunbathing/relaxing as well.

“Small hotel in a great location.”

This was a great little hotel. Our transfer from the port was arranged for us and the friendly and helpful driver gave us a tour commentary and delivered us and our luggage to our room. The room itself was clean and comfortable with a lovely balcony which provided us with a great view. It was an easy walk to restaurants and into Fira. The pool at Sofia was a bonus and much used by our family. There is no breakfast room but the mini mart is very near so this was not really a problem for us. The breakfasts at the adjacent Mylos Cafe are delicious and the view is amazing.

“Great location!”

We stayed at Hotel Sofia on our vacation to Greece. We loved the location. It was close to a lot of restaurants and shops and only a 10 minute walk from Fira. The hotel does not have a completely unubstructed view from the balcony, but there is an overlook just 60 meters away so you can watch the sunset. For 50 euros, it was a good price for Santorini.
Having the transfers included in the price was nice too, but be careful if a cab is arranged for you to leave Santorini from the port or the airport. Our taxi driver tried to scam us out of 15 euros. He kept telling us we needed to pay him, but we knew our transfers were included. He even tried to "call" Sofia, but he didn't even dial a number.

“Good value hotel in Firostefani/Fira”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

I stayed here for 4 nights in June last year. My room was the top floor twin room facing Fira - allowing views of the caldera as well as the coast line where the beaches are. Really beautiful view for the price I paid. Compared to other hotels in this area, Hotel Sofia is still affordable. I believe I paid around 65£ per night. The room was lovely, spacious. I also liked the roof terrace with beautiful views and the small pool area.

This hotel is perfectly located with restaurants and shopping nearby. The caldera edge is a 15 second walk away. The 10 minute walk to Fira will provide you with breathtaking views of the caldera. Bring comfortable shoes! This is not an island for high heels, even if the posh hotels make you feel the urge to bring some.

Two minus points (or maybe I should call it advice?):
I wish breakfast was included. You have to buy it elsewhere. The restaurant/cafe which is recommended by the hotel is also right next to it, sits on the caldera edge and has absolutely amazing views (Mill House?) while you are sipping your very expensive coffee and eating your very expensive waffles (the 10% discount you get as a Hotel Sofia guest on certain menu items doesn't make a difference). There are other family-run restaurants nearby where you can get a much more affordable, good breakfast (tried and tested!). Just explore the area.

I am afraid to say that the shop (clothes and souvenirs) which is part of the hotel and run by Sofia is absolutely overpriced even for Santorini. I would not recommend buying anything there apart from post cards. You can get everything cheaper elsewhere (also speaking from experience).

Santorini is a lot more affordable than you would think. Just do your homework and compare prices. As a single traveler among thousands of couples I had a blast and absolutely fell in love with the island which I can say is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I hope that Hotel Sofia will have a room available when I come here again with my partner!!!

“a very good deal for santorin, ideally located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

this hotel has very comfortable rooms, and nice swimming pool (not very big, but pleasant) and is perfectly located in a quiet and romantic part of fira, and yet not too far away from the main sights. the view from the terrace (or the rooms with a view) is fantastic, with a glimpse of the sea behing an old wind mill.
the price is very reasonable for the island and the owner is nice.
