“Great location!”

We stayed at Hotel Sofia on our vacation to Greece. We loved the location. It was close to a lot of restaurants and shops and only a 10 minute walk from Fira. The hotel does not have a completely unubstructed view from the balcony, but there is an overlook just 60 meters away so you can watch the sunset. For 50 euros, it was a good price for Santorini.
Having the transfers included in the price was nice too, but be careful if a cab is arranged for you to leave Santorini from the port or the airport. Our taxi driver tried to scam us out of 15 euros. He kept telling us we needed to pay him, but we knew our transfers were included. He even tried to "call" Sofia, but he didn't even dial a number.

“Good value hotel in Firostefani/Fira”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

I stayed here for 4 nights in June last year. My room was the top floor twin room facing Fira - allowing views of the caldera as well as the coast line where the beaches are. Really beautiful view for the price I paid. Compared to other hotels in this area, Hotel Sofia is still affordable. I believe I paid around 65£ per night. The room was lovely, spacious. I also liked the roof terrace with beautiful views and the small pool area.

This hotel is perfectly located with restaurants and shopping nearby. The caldera edge is a 15 second walk away. The 10 minute walk to Fira will provide you with breathtaking views of the caldera. Bring comfortable shoes! This is not an island for high heels, even if the posh hotels make you feel the urge to bring some.

Two minus points (or maybe I should call it advice?):
I wish breakfast was included. You have to buy it elsewhere. The restaurant/cafe which is recommended by the hotel is also right next to it, sits on the caldera edge and has absolutely amazing views (Mill House?) while you are sipping your very expensive coffee and eating your very expensive waffles (the 10% discount you get as a Hotel Sofia guest on certain menu items doesn't make a difference). There are other family-run restaurants nearby where you can get a much more affordable, good breakfast (tried and tested!). Just explore the area.

I am afraid to say that the shop (clothes and souvenirs) which is part of the hotel and run by Sofia is absolutely overpriced even for Santorini. I would not recommend buying anything there apart from post cards. You can get everything cheaper elsewhere (also speaking from experience).

Santorini is a lot more affordable than you would think. Just do your homework and compare prices. As a single traveler among thousands of couples I had a blast and absolutely fell in love with the island which I can say is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I hope that Hotel Sofia will have a room available when I come here again with my partner!!!

“a very good deal for santorin, ideally located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

this hotel has very comfortable rooms, and nice swimming pool (not very big, but pleasant) and is perfectly located in a quiet and romantic part of fira, and yet not too far away from the main sights. the view from the terrace (or the rooms with a view) is fantastic, with a glimpse of the sea behing an old wind mill.
the price is very reasonable for the island and the owner is nice.

“Me and my fiancée stayed at hotel Sofia...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

Me and my fiancée stayed at hotel Sofia for a week in July and had a great time. We were picked up from the airport by someone who spoke English and was very keen to inform us of what's good and told us about santorini. He carried both our suitcases to a room without expecting a tip however we gave him some small change.the room we were first placed in, had two small singles beds and the room itself was quite small and basic. We had printed emails of which the owner had agreed to place us in a double room with a veranda, and upon showing this email we were moved straight away into a bigger room with a four postered bed and shared veranda overlooking mylos cafe and the caldera, the room was great.the only problem we had with staying here was the shower which did not work properly for 2 mornings(not in a row) but Sofia tried to fix this asap. In a great quiet location with restaurants very near and fira centre a 20 minute walk away. Would recommend a stay in room 3!

“Great value, excellent location”

Clean and tidy hotel in Firostefani. The location is excellent, it is a spectacular 15min walk along the caldera edge to Fira and 15min the other way to Imerovigli. The hotel is 15m from the square so you get a choice of a number of very nice tavernas and restaurants around (definitely try Aktaion) and there is also the bus stop for Oia.

Our room was small but tidy with a small balcony looking at the sea. The pool is very nice and you can go to Milos bar opposite the hotel to get your drinks and bring them to the hotel. Milos bar is also great for watching the sunset and there is a bakery and general store next door for water, magazines, drinks, etc.

Overall, a very good stay, the price was also very competitive (75euros) for high season in Santorini, you get a bit of peace and quiet away from the endless streams of tourists in Fira, yet can be right in the middle of Fira in 15 minutes.
