“Fantastic studio accomodation overlooking the caldera”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Stay here if you want to appreciate the amazing caldera views in Santorini, but also want your own space, and don't want to break the bank. This is a fabulous location with several good restaurants on its door step and an easy walk into the capital. You will need good knees however as the steps down to the hotel are a killer, but help you stop piling on too much holiday weight!

The hotel is set up more as studios/apartments as there isn't an evening restaurant and other than breakfast you are left to your own devices. Suited us as we had a little kitchenette area and they have no issues with you bringing in food and drinks from the local shop or takeaways. We had a traditional room which mean't we had our bed up a step ladder on a mezzanine level - meant we had a lot of room and a lounge area but the steps were a little bit hairy if you had had a few glasses of wine!

We normally always eat out on holidays but because the view from the balcony is so amazing from agali houses on a couple of occasions we got takeaway pizza's from Il Cantuccio the Italian (just above the hotel) and enjoyed with a bottle of wine whilst watching the sunset.

We loved all of the different little seating areas/day beds around the pool, and breakfast although functional (ham, cheese, pastries and bread, hard boiled eggs, yoghurts and melon brought out to you on a tray) was lovely up on the patio area, again looking out on that view.

Location really is great as in Fira we thought the restaurants were very touristy i.e. average food over priced because of the view and in Firastefani you get more cost effective places with much better food. Also walked up to Imerovigli and the hotels looked really cramped with little space around the pool area compared with Agali Houses.

In Firastefani just above Agali is Mylos Cafe which is an old windmill renovated to be a cool contemporary bar, pricey but excellent mojito's. Below it is Il Cantuccio the Italian that although small we loved because it served good pizza, gnocci and pasta and great house wine for around 12 euros for a litre. This place has no view but gets packed so book or be prepared to wait especially for an outside seat which had the best atmosphere.

Would definitely return to Agali Houses, as the team there were really friendly the location is amazing and I think although expensive because it is Santorini! you get good value for money (having seen what other hotels looked like and knowing what they were charging)

If travelling from the UK book direct with the hotel and get your flights from Easyjet - we booked through an agent and paid way over the odds - having seen what we could have paid direct and still had to pay for luggage with Easyjet and arrange our own transfers (just email Agali Houses and they will meet you and pick you up for a very reasonable price!)

Room Tip: All rooms appear to have a view. If you can afford it upgrade and get a decent sized private balcony

“Simply Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Nothing beats the view from here. Our room had a huge balcony, day beds, outdoor setting, all pretty much private from other rooms and from every other property there. The sunsets are magic, you simply must take some champagne, sit outside on the balcony and just watch.
The breakfast they provide for you is great, a full selection of breads, meat, cheese, yoghurt, cereal, eggs. A great way to kick off your morning!
The staff went out of their way to help you, give a great run down of the town, what to see, where to eat, shop - very friendly. Its a expensive, but then you are on holiday at the greek islands! Pay the little extra and get much more than you expect.

Room Tip: Choose the Superior Apartment - Sea vIew

“Agali House --rooms with spectacular views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

We were in Santorini for a family wedding in mid-September. Our group of ten stayed at this small boutique hotel built into the cliffs of Firostefani. All rooms have fantastic views. Why I am writing this review has to do with the warmth and service we received from the staff. From manager Vasiliki to the waitresses and the bellhop (that works morning and night keeping the place clean and taking the suitcases up and down the over 100 steps that bring you to the hotel.) Our plane going home left late at night and Vasiliki, without a moments hesitation, allowed us a VERY late check-out as soon as she checked the possibility. These are gestures one does not forget and therefore I give high marks to this hotel and the graciousness of its staff. The room we had was large and well appointed, but the shower head needed fixing and the AC dripped! Even so, most of the time you are on the terrace with a priceless view of the Caldera and incredible sunsets. There are hundreds of hotels on Santorini and I can only give the highest marks to Vasiliki and this lovely abode on the cliffs.

“Gorgeous view, gorgeous hotel”

We had an amazing time at Agali Houses. Our room was big (we stayed in the room with the lofted bed, which is a great value if you don't mind climbing a ladder to your bed), our balcony was SO nice, and the view was so amazing that we just got wine and olives and stayed at the place pretty much all the time (there is a mini-market right next door that has cheap food, wine, and beer). The front desk staff is really nice and helpful. And, breakfast is delicious and huge. Agali Houses was the best place we stayed on our trip - it couldn't have been better. Stay here!

“Best view I've ever had...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011 via mobile

The view from our room (106) was absolutely stunning. Nothing beats it. It is the reason you would stay here. A little pricey but book early for a good rate.
Fabulous room and private balcony. We enjoyed many dinners (it has a kitchenette too) alone watching the sunset from here. Go shopping for some grocery basics and fill up the fridge. We saved so much on food by not eating out a lot and making our own packed lunches for days at the beach.
Simply the most stunning position you could wish for in Santorini.
Only downfall: bed was pretty uncomfortable, but everyone has their own preference.
