“Could pick better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

This hotel was suggested to us by an agent in Athens. It was very disappointing and would have paid extra to get something better. It was clean, but very, very small. No where at all to put bags - in fact was the smallest room I have ever been to. The bathroom was very tiny and always had a terrible smell. No shower curtain or screen so the water was everywhere when showering. The shower hanger was broken. The people working there were very unfriendly and not at all welcoming. The breakfast was ok. Would definately not recommend. Very noisy at night from street traffic. The view from our balcony was of roadway and to the far coast. No views of Caldera.

“Avoid at all costs”

Cheap, but there is a reason for it. Rooms are tiny, with minimal privacy. Bathrooms are even smaller and have bad smells. Pool is tiny. Breakfast is awful consisting of a croissant or bread rolls and orange juice only.
Stayed three nights and was woken by the house maids every single morning by them either talking loudly, playing their radio or from the smell of them smoking in the rooms and halls as they cleaned.
Reception was very unhelpful, and after requesting to move room, they advised they were full, despite not seeing any one else in the hotel in our entire stay.

Only plus was they pick you up and drop you back to the ports, albeit 2.5 hours before your boat is due to depart.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2011

we had a fantastic stay at the hotel margarita. the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. the room was lovely and traditional very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was nice and plentiful and the hotel is positioned in a pleasant area with great views from your balcony, just a short stroll into the centre of thira. we cant wait till we go back, santorini is incredible.

Room Tip: Double with balcony

“rude and unfriendly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

on the last leg of our fantastic holiday in italy and greece we were unfortuate enough to be booked into the Hotel Margarita. After being left standing for nearly an hour at the dock whilst the driver for the hotel scouted for business from the departing passengers off the ferry ( and didn't get any), we then arrived at the hotel to find that the booking was wrong (had been changed by the manager) and were told there were no other rooms available. in the end we had to spend the next 4 nights on a fold up bed. On par with the rest of the similarly priced/standard properties that we had stayed at throughout our journey the Margarita was dated, breakfast was terrible, reception was manned by a teenager most of the time who spoke very little english and the actual manager when you did see him was a pig! Would never stay there or recommend EVER. A disappointing end to our fabulous trip. the ONLY counsellation was the position.

“HORRIBLE - Avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

This hotel is absolutely TERRIBLE. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS.

The family that owns / operates the hotel is the most rude, ignorant group of people we have encountered in our entire time in Greece. When we arrived, nobody even said hello. In fact, the only words spoken to us were, "Give me your passport.... here is your key". They did not offer to show us where the room was, or to help us with our bags. They didn't have any maps or brochures available at the front desk, and did not offer any information on what was close to the hotel. At the very least they could have shown us where the hotel was on the map, but apparently that seemed like too much effort.

The first room we were given was DISGUSTING. There were hairs all over the pillows and sheets, stains on the bedding and towels, the bathroom was dark, smelled foul, and looked like it was falling apart. The room was literally 10ft x 10ft (maybe), and with the furniture and our suitcases, it was so cramped, that you could barely move without having to climb over something.

Immediately we went back down to reception and asked for a new room. The owner responded simply with "No", and walked away from the desk. When I pushed harder and said that the room we had been given was unacceptable, he told me that the entire hotel was full and that he had no more rooms. Keep in mind we were there at the start of October when Santorini is (comparatively) a ghost town, so the hotel being fully booked is VERY unlikely.

We contacted our travel agent who had picked this hotel and demanded either a new room or a new hotel altogether. After our agent called the owner, he magically had a new room available for us, mere minutes after he had just told us the entire hotel was full. The new room was still a total dive, but significantly better than the first one. Given that we were only in Santorini for 2 days, we decided to avoid the hassle of finding a new hotel, though, in hindsight, we should have just left that place and never looked back. Not to mention the fact that the owner started yelling at me and getting in my face for calling our travel agent and complaining. It was uncomfortable and offensive to both myself and my girlfriend.

On our departure day from Santorini, our ferry was to leave the port at 6 PM. We had already paid for our transfer from the hotel to the port, and when I tried to arrange a time with the owner, he told me that the ONLY transfer that day was at 2 PM. This means we would have had to sit at the port (where there is NOTHING to do) for 4 HOURS. Absolute garbage. Again, I had to get into a yelling match with the owner before he finally agreed to take us to the port at 4:30. It took threatening to call the travel agent back for him to finally comply with our request.

The owners of this hotel could not care less about their customers. They offer NO help about the island and the activities, they are rude and confrontational. As we were finally leaving that god awful place, I could hear the owner arguing with a Korean couple who had been placed in the first dungeon of a room that we were given.

PLEASE - do yourself a favour and do NOT go to this hotel. For the price, you can find much better, much friendlier accomodations elsewhere on the island. Don't let this place ruin your experience on Santorini like it did for us.

STAY AWAY!!
