This is a nice hotel, but not a five star. When we arrived at night there were no bell boys to take our luggage and the receptionist didn´t seem to speak very good english, making it difficult to ask questions like where the breakfast buffet where and if we could get a map for the hotel. This is a big hotel and may see a bit confusing the first days.
The hotel part is clean and the maids and bar/waiters are very helpful and nice. It´s a shame they put people who doesn´t like their job in the reception. We were going back with a late plane and asked if it was possible to book the room for another day. The answer was that we needed to come back later so they could check if the room were occupied. This happened 3 times. At the day before check out, they told us that the room was occupied and we had to come after breakfast to see if there were another room which we then would be charged 60€ for the time we needed the room after check out. Not very costumer friendly.
The guests at the hotel reserve the sun beds at the pool, even though there are signs everywhere that the their towels will be removed. We got up at 8 am and still we had problems finding free sun beds.. The people who had reserved often didn´t arrive at the pool before after breakfast around 11am and then left for lunch around 1pm. The hotel staff didn´t do anything about it even though we asked. Either removed signs or do something about it! We also found it wierd that the sun beds at the beach cost 8€ (for two) on a all inclusive hotel.
The rooms were nice, a bit old, but clean. The maid were very sweet and even cleaned our nightstands stocking all our mess into piles.
The beds are HARD! Don´t even think about booking this hotel if you have problems with your back. Pillows are nice though.
The food in the breakfast buffet were very good. Not everything was our taste, but you have a lot to chose from. The staff cleans your table quick. (some times too quick)
The spa is the most positive experience about the whole hotel. The staff are very friendly but yet professional. The prices are not bad compared to Norway. it is also possible to just relax, use the indoor heated pool, take sauna, footbaths and experience showers. The products they use for the treatments are available one the spashop. They are a bit expensive but worth every €.
All over we liked the Porto Platanias, but there are a bit too much "flaws" which don´t make this a 5star hotel more like a 3star. Staff not counting the people in reception are very helpful and says hello every day. The bartender in the "Hermes lounge bar" is so nice getting us fruits and nuts with our drinks.
If you go to Platanias and want to stay at a 5star hotel we would not recommend this.
