Jasmine Village was great for kids because of the swimming pools, and the quietness, but the standard of the rooms was very basic indeed (sort of the cheapest 'early 70's Cretan')! Clean, though! We had breakfast at the hotel and thanked our stars on a daily basis for not having opted for more meals or all-inclusive, since the food was less than tempting (my husband and I settled for tomato, cheese and bread as the only palatable alternative, but the coffee was ok!). The staff was pleasant and friendly. Another minus was the fact that both the village and the hotel seemed to be totally Scandinavian, and may be charcterized as a Scandinavian enclave, which is not our cup of tea (though we are Scandinavian!). Still, Platanias is a good place as starting point for explorations of Crete! Our grandchildren loved Knossos, and we also went to the west coast as well as further west (Kissamos).
