Le Darnetal is a small restaurant with 4 bedrooms in the centre of Montreuiil.
There is no dedicated pafking but we have always managed to park in the street outside with no problem. Yes you have to wait until 6pm on your first night to check in-after that you are given an entry code. Yes the bedrooms are very french!
But this is a restaurant-and the food is very good. The owners are friendly and the wife speaks English if you have to phone. They are also very helpful-varying the set meal to accomodate my diabetic diet for example.
We have stayed here dozens of times-it is one of our favourites.

“a warm base to explore Montreuil”

This central restaurant in the walled town of Montreuil has six rooms above it. There is in fact no reception - thus you have to frustratingly wait until the restaurant opens at 6pm to 'check in', but they give you a code so after arrival you can come and go. The rooms and public areas are odd in that they all look maintained by a very bad DIYer, so locks fall off and there are raw brackets, unfinished wood and odd finishes everywhere. However its cheap and the hot water is hot and the rooms are cosy and warm (esp in January), and if you want a town centre base to camp out, its good and worth a visit for a few days.
