We stayed here for one night of our 9 night north island holiday and I wish we could have stayed longer. This place is simply beautiful. The views here are amazing and the accommodation small, but perfect for our needs. The farm is a great place to go and explore, and has its own glow worms just a short 2 minute walk from the cottage front door. The owner Rachel was incredibly nice and nothing was too much trouble for her. She also provided some great advice of things to see in the local area (go check out the natural bridge 20mins drive down the road). Have already recommended to friends and will definitely stay again on another trip to NZ.

The room is a fun little cabin set just outside town. The cabin is cozy and well-appointed. It included delicious food for breakfast available on our schedule. The last night we were there, it stormed like crazy. It was beautiful and we were warm and comfortable inside. The glo worm caves were very cool, too.

The hosts were great, too. Everyone was perfect and clean. Angus helped me re-arrange my tour (because I was still injured) plus we got to chat over his Hobbit knowledge. Definitely an enjoyable stay all around.

The two tiny cottages at Te Tiro are as far removed from five star hotel luxury as you can imagine. The other end of the spectrum, with one room offering a little kitchen and dining area and a double bed, with two futons on the mezzanine floor above, accessed by a sturdy wooden ladder at the foot of the bed. The bathroom is a separate building at the end of the verandah, which can be a mission on a cold night.
But for a location with a difference, Te Tiro is unbeatable.
It is a privilege to be staying on this lovely farm at an altitude of over 400 metres, in its bush setting overlooking spectacular views of farmland to a distant mountain range, as mists come and go and the sky is lit with the moon and stars.
This is real New Zealand in a way few tourists will ever see it, on a farm which has been in the family for generations. The warmth and hospitality of the hosts is not the least of its charms,
Truly an experience not to be missed.

We had a very pleasant stay at Te Tiro, with kind, genuine, down to earth hosts who were very helpful in receiving our baggage that missed the plane from Sydney and making sure everything was as dust free as possible for our daughter's allergy problem. The cottage was cute and cosy, the private glowworm viewing area was ace, and the beauty of the setting in farmland a little off the beaten track was awesome. For us though, we found the actual space in the cottage too squeezy. Unfortunately, there was really nowhere to fit our bags without moving the little table and chairs up against the wall, and then we were really having to climb around them to get to the table. There was nowhere else to sit, so no lounge or anything. We didn't mind the short walk to our own little bathroom, it was all part if the fun! If I was 20 years old, traveling with a couple of friends with very little luggage it would have been perfect!

My wife and I and our teenage son decided we needed to get a weekend away from Auckland for a night so we decided to head to Waitomo. We searched for a place to stay and Te Tiro always came up as different and yes it was in all positive ways .Great little cottages very clean and tidy with all you need .with amazing views over the wonderful green countryside. We were met by pippin who showed us to our cottage followed by puk the dog who makes him self very much at home .After visiting the waterfalls and natural bridge we came home for some quiet time and it really is quiet -wonderful. Off to the huhu cafe in waitomo -really recommnded. We had some wild weather at night but we were all warm and cosy. Breakfast provided in the morning cereals ,toasts juice jams all good stuff. So if you want a great getaway this is the place . Hope your better Rachel
