Holbox is a sweet little island full of character and Mexican charm. Worth a visit for 3 days or so but this is not the place to stay.
The hotel is in serious need of some love and care on many levels.
Dining/breakfast area is 1/10 for aesthetic holiday charm and 0/10 for breakfast quality. Breakfast consists of old tired fruit, processed bread (inedible, no exaggeration), horrid coffee and fake orange juice. My husband and I went out for breakfast. Life is just too short! I cannot imagine why anyone would want to dine there at lunchtime or in the evening. It was so dark and depressing.
The staff are nice enough but seem a bit worn down. Clear leadership and guidance are really lacking.
The pool bar was closed. Apparently, it was not high season, even though it was Christmas. The main swimming pool was dirty.
The beach area is in shocking need of attention. The mattresses for the sun loungers were torn and tired and not enough to go round. The whole area needs to be landscaped. It is the worst kept beach area within a hotel on the island, which is shame as the hotel is located in a prime position on one of the best bits of the beautiful beach.
The rooms are a bit dark and gloomy but not too bad in comparison to the communal areas. There were large holes in mosquito net.
This hotel is suited more towards mass market package deals. It feels like nobody cares and nobody ask you how your stay is anyway.... maybe too scared to ask!?
All in all, it is terrible value for money and even if it was half the price, we still would not stay here again.
