“Excellent accomodation”

Lovely place in a lush tropical garden. We had the cottage with sleeping room, kitchen and living room, nicely furnished with antique furniture, lots of space. Dave was a great and very helpful host. We would definately come back here again!!

To help you with your decision:
Go here if...
- you like to be in a nice and privat environment
- you love nature and like to eat fresh fruits
- you want great value for a reasonable price
- you have a rental car and plan to explore the island anyway

It might not be the best place for you to choose if
- you want to live centrally and close to the beach
- you search nightlife
- you don't like dogs (even if Daves dogs are nice and well educated)

“A haven in the hills”

We chose this property because of its proximity to the hospital at which we were working. The owner, Dave Kennedy, was so helpful in all aspects of our visit—from airport transportation to trips to the hospital to suggestions on dining. By the end of our stay—which included airline strikes, aircraft failures, and cancelled flights—we were thrilled at the decision we made to stay at Epping Forest……….not because of its proximity to our work site but because of its ability to bring calm to the end of very difficult and hectic days! Every morning a delicious breakfast awaited, and every evening our gracious host awaited, and each day the views were amazing.

Our rooms had comfortable beds and plenty of fans to cool off in the evenings. We can't wait to stay again!! Thank you for a wonderful visit.

“Gem of a place, Gem of a host!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2010

Epping Forest is a complete gem! We loved every single thing about this B&B. It all started when I called the host, Dave, to book the cottage. He was so easy going and just said “I’ll meet you at the airport with a sign…just bring your fees with you.” How refreshing to stay with a host that wasn’t paranoid about our not showing up or not paying our fees! Right away, we knew we would love it.

Our flight was late getting in and Dave waited for us patiently. He whisked us away from the stressful travel day, giving us a personalized tour of the island as we made our way to his property. I immediately felt at ease, and I loved all the helpful info that Dave provided.

When we arrived at Epping Forest, Dave showed us to our cottage (we rented the new little cottage) and it was as cute as can be. I appreciated all the special touches, like the fresh flowers in the living room and the lovely turned down bed. It was all so inviting! Dave even filled our refrigerator with fresh food for the morning’s breakfast. No detail was overlooked.

We were then allowed to get settled while Dave prepared a lovely dinner. My husband was starving and this was just the icing on the cake for our first night of vacation. Instead of scrambling around, finding a taxi and a place to eat in a foreign place, Dave’s lovely meal, cocktail and other personal touches washed away our stress and fatigue and set us up for a lovely trip!

Over the course of the few days we stayed at Epping Forest, Dave helped us with every detail, from helping us rent a car (and delivering us to the agency) to providing recommendations on the very best beaches and sites to see. We felt as though we were staying with a good friend and even found ourselves socializing with Dave and other guests late into the evening. We loved every minute!

The cottage and the estate are beautiful, even more so than all the photos online. We felt very safe and secure. Everything was clean and comfortable. The pool is wonderfully refreshing and the views are fabulous. The cottage is a dream…very spacious and so cute.

If I had to think of a complaint, the only thing would be that the bed could have been more comfortable, but honestly, it didn’t impact our trip in the slightest…

I can honestly say that had we not stayed with Dave at Epping Forest, our trip to Grenada wouldn’t have been nearly as enjoyable. We learned a lot, had much fun socializing and the stay really set us up to enjoy the island and surrounding beauty.

“Genuinely hospitable - Epping Forest and Grenada”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2010

Where to begin? Grenada is a wonderful country, a true Caribbean gem with lots to see and do, especially if you're into history... and rum. But more about that later.

As we came to Grenada from Carriacou, Dave met us at the dock, and after about a 10-minutes drive we arrived at the gates of Epping forest. The B&B is part of the former plantation, with the main building being the old plantation house, lovingly restored and reconstructed by Jackie and Dave. However, we stayed at the cottage, which is a bit secluded in a private part of the garden, which Dave had built himself. At the time of our stay, we were the only guests on the property.

As we settled in, several lovely surprises awaited us: We arrived late in the afternoon, and had no car or time to go shopping, but the fridge in the cottage was fully stocked, and Dave even cooked us dinner on the first night. A lovely meal, followed by fresh mangoes, picked from the tree in the garden! The cottage was very clean - and cleaned daily! - and we had far less mosquito problems than on other Caribbean islands.

Both the main building and the cottage are furnished with either selected antique or handmade antique replica furniture, made of full wood, giving a special and warm touch to the whole place. Small details everywhere showed that the whole place was taken care of with love. Flowers in the living room and on the bed were a nice touch - Dave had good advisors on that one ;-)

Any plantation house is not complete without its pets. Epping forest is no exception. Three lovely dogs, Stella, Sandy and Spike, roam the garden, and although very playful, they are mostly well behaved. Spike is a bit on the spoiled side, always demanding petting, a big cuddly baby in a mean-looking dog's body. But he obeys commands once you tell him to go away, as well as his other furry friends.

The garden of the B&B is absolutely wonderful, even if you have no plans whatsoever for the day, you can just linger around and enjoy all the wonderful flowers, trees and fruit. If the fruit is ripe, you are free to pick it!

Dave, our host, was a great company, always willing to share local information, stories, and rum and coke. We had a great time with him, and he was very helpful in making the best of our Grenadian experience. He arranged our rental car, suggested the right places to see and things to do, and everytime we wanted to go someplace, he would draw us a little map, outlining the way, pointing out the landmarks so we don't get lost, and places to see. The road system in Grenada can be a bit confusing, waypoints are scarce, and at many places non-existent. Even having a road map sometimes doesn't help. That's why Dave's maps ("after the church to your right, turn left at the big stone block") were a life-saver. Even before we left, we decided that if we get back to Grenada, Dave's place will be the place to stay.

One more tip if you'd really like to experience Grenada and its community:
Every second Saturday, there's a hike/run/climb/race through the Grenadian forests and villages, The Hash. Do plan your stay to include a Hash Saturday, and check out the Grenada Hash House Harriers at http://grenadahash.com.

“Beautiful property, fabulous personal service, intimate setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2010

This is a beautiful location on a hilltop, surrounded by tropical flora with sweeping vistas of the mountains and ocean-beyond. Dave offers exceptional service from delicious full-English breakfasts to picking you up at the airport and making you dinner upon arrival (if you are staying for three or more days). We felt like we had arrived at the home of an long-time friend. He keeps the rooms, public areas, and property in pristine condition. Dave also offers easy-going, informative and congenial hospitality, and slips in special touches such as flowers on your pillow upon arrival. He even pulled up the bedding and laid out the clothes we left strewn on the bed when we left one morning. We thoroughly enjoyed strolling into the tiny village, meeting a few locals along the way (one of which pointed out a wild toucan in a tree) and having a delicious lunch at the local rum shop “The Wild Life Bar”. (It’s not the least bit wild; it’s a two-table restaurant/bar/snack shop that serves excellent local food and local social flavor). Epping is located in a residential area in the hills above St. George’s and the Grand Anse—about twenty-five minutes of twisty roads to reach either destination. This is a plus from the privacy and local-immersion perspective, not to mention the sheer beauty. A few things to note: 1. There are three delightful dogs in residence: Spike, Sandy and Stella. They are very good dogs but they will be right at your side when you are on the patio or strolling the grounds. We loved this but you should know in case you are not “dog-friendly”; they are part of the package. 2. We visited during the dry season and during an unique circumstance—the worst drought Grenada has experienced in over 50 years. As such, water was being rationed in residential areas. While the tourist areas of Grand Anse and Point Salines were receiving full water service, that was not the case in the area where Epping Forest is located. While the property has a reserve tank of water, it does not provide much water pressure. Thus, we only had trickling water at best during times that the water was shut off to the community. Please note that this was an unique occurrence. But, if you are planning to stay during the dry season, it might be worth asking if the water is being rationed. As non-campers, the lack of water for washing or flushing was a problem for us. 3. We stayed in the Blue Room which was absolutely lovely, appointed with beautiful antiques. It was not air conditioned, which we knew in advance. However, we were expecting to be able to open the front door of the room to let in the lovely breeze at night. However, there was no screened door so we could not do so. (It would let in mosquitoes). We were very hot and sticky in the room and when trying to sleep. Regarding this, please note that, along with the drought, there was a heat wave that even the locals were complaining about; normally, it would not have been as hot as it was. Also, we live in a climate where we wear short sleeves when the temperature hits 50 degrees Fahrenheit! Many would have no issue with the temperature in the room. 4. If you prefer to be five minutes away from conventional shopping amenities, an ATM, and several restaurants, this is not the right spot for you; stay in the Grand Anse or Point Salines area. All of that said, we loved Epping Forest and would have been completely delighted had it not been for the consequences of the drought and heat wave.
