Rating of Silks hotel
We stayed at the Silks hotel for 4 nights. The building itself is pitoresque and the rooms are very nice and clean, although coming into the years. We stayed in the room canelle which is located between the pool, the entrance area and the kitchen. Since there are mosquito nets and no real glass windows, you can hear every word that is spoken and every step that is made on the gravel path outside of the room. Unfortunately the management may be aware of this but does not really care about. One early morning at around 6am they had breakfast and were chatting with their friends in front of our room not thinking about that the other guest may be asleep. The following night they let some students and guests having a small party around the pool at 0.30am! This is annoying in terms of the advertising of the hotel makes. We sometimes rather felt being in a backpacker hostel than in a four star luxury retreat!
We are really disappointed from the (new) management of the hotel. Obviously, a management change was undertaken 4 weeks before we arrived and they are far away from being professional what we have expected concerning the high rates of the hotel in comparison to other (boutique) hotels in Dominica. The runners are totally new in the hotel business. Some examples: For breakfast and lunch they forgot either knifes, forks or even plates. They had no menu and no price list so we had no idea how high the bill will be at the end of the stay. Moreover, they were not able to hand out a receipt and charge the credit card (we were told that the printer was broken). Also the arrival was a bit strange: we had to look for someone because there was no one at the reception desk. There was neither a real welcome nor any information about the hotel and its facilities. As a summary, we assume that there are better alternatives to this place in Dominica.
To make a long story short, we did not feel very comfortable there and the hotel must improve highly in its professionalism so we can not recommend it against the background of all the new hotels in Dominica in this tourist segment. We felt like paying the full price for half of the service one would expect from such a hotel.
