“Very comfortable with excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2010

We stayed here for five nights and were sorry to leave. We were made very welcome by Tim and Helen and made to feel at home. The room ( Ithon) was comfortable although a little on the small, albeit cosy, side. The food is awesome (if you are on half board do not eat lunch!). Only having four rooms means you get to know the other guests and we met some interesting people including a couple from Vancouver. We shall return!

“A five star experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2010

The previous reviews gave me a good feeling about this B&B and I wasn't disappointed. A nice, quiet rural location, a lovely looking building and an amazing view. On arrival, was offered tea and informed the log fire would be on in the sitting room. The room was stylish, clean and perfect for my one night stop over with laptop (free wifi available and easy to connect to). The bathroom was immaculate - even had some hand made body lotion. Breakfast was to order - freshly squeezed orange juice, pork and bacon "from just over the hill" and eggs from their own chickens. And they take credit cards - hurrah!

“Wonderful warm welcome, a top class B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2009

We chose this B & B as a last minute stopover on a family research trip through Wales. We had heard good reviews but were not sure on arrival exactly what to expect. The decor looked a little old-fashioned and we had not read the tripadvisor reviews.
Tim showed us to our room and then brought us a tray of tea with hot welsh cakes in the sitting room as we sank into comfortable sofas beside the roaring log fire. Later, Helen arrived with drinks and more logs for the fire. Another couple joined us to peruse the dinner menu and we then sat at a lovely antique table in the window of the dining room enjoying another log fire. Dinner was delicious - simple food beautifully cooked with fresh organic vegetables mostly from the garden. Tim's soup of pear, spinach and watercress was a triumph as were his mini cheese souffles. We shared the sticky toffee pudding and the lovely wintry hot berry crumble with cream.
Our room was adequate 'tho a little on the small side - but we didn't care because sinking into the gorgeous bed with it's soft feather duvet was like floating on a cloud. I am very fussy about beds, having suffered from back pain for years and in any case don't sleep very well...and most hotels/B & B's have pretty uncomfortable beds....so this was a wonderful pleasure. Other pleasures were the little crystal glasses provided with the sherry and chocolates, the enormous fluffy towels and the cup of tea in bed in the morning. Internet connection was excellent - our one of only a couple of little gripes being that there was no desk in the room at which to work at the computer. The other gripe was the annoyingly malfunctioning toilet...guys - you need to fix this!
Breakfast was excellent, the eggs fresh and free range from the hens in the garden, and the coffee was high quality and served with foaming hot milk. Tim and Helen source free range food from local producers and grow their own vegetables.
Tim and Helen are masters at making you feel pampered without being intrusive and their warm hospitality should serve as a lesson to all Hoteliers and B & B owners. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend this B & B to everyone.

“Absolutely the best!”

My three sisters and i stayed at the Old Vicarage for three nights last September. What a wonderful place. Helen and Tim pampered all of us as if we were visiting royalty. The food was elegant, beautifully presented and, best of all, fresh from local farms and from the nearby garden. The rooms were lovely and the beds totally comfortable. The late afternoon sunsets took my breath way they were so beautiful.
The trip was a present to my oldest sister who loves to explore our family heritage. We found the locations of the family farm and thoroughly explored the area surrounding Newtown.
I've traveled extensively and stayed in very special places around the world but I think that the Old Vicarage and Helen and Tim made this particular trip among the most memorable. All of us would love to find a reason to return!!!

“A perfect vacation spot”

At the end of September I was fortunate to spend four days at the Old Vicarage Dolfor with three of my sisters (ages 55-70). We couldn't have found a better location for our girls' getaway. Tim and Helen Withers have found the perfect formula for running a B and B, and deserve every one of their five stars. They are great hosts, there when you need them, pleasant, friendly, but never intrusive, and we came away feeling we had new friends. The Inn is a lovely old vicarage located among the rolling hills of Mid Wales, and surrounded by wonderful gardens. It is a short distance from Newtown.

The bedrooms are all different and are beautifully decorated (Helen's passion), have comfortable beds with lovely linens, duvets and soft woolen throws and blankets. (Do ask about those blankets.) All have flat screen TV's and modern ensuite bathrooms.

The living room is sunny and pleasant, with a fireplace (which Tim lights every afternoon if it's the least bit cool or damp), very comfortable furniture and a homey feeling. We had tea there every afternoon when we returned from our adventures, and then cocktails or wine before dinner.

Don't even think of going elsewhere for dinner. Tim is an excellent chef and everything brought to the table is as fresh and local as it can be. Most produce comes from their own organic gardens, or from nearby farms, and the same is true of the delicious meats. Fish comes fresh from the ocean. Helen has her own "happy hens" so the eggs could not be fresher. The deserts, the cheeses...awesome. These wonderful meals are beautifully presented and served in the antique filled dining room. Breakfasts are feasts in themselves, and served with the Vicarage's own jams and preserves, and wonderful French press coffee.

There is plenty to do in the area, hiking, sightseeing, and it is also a great place to just relax. We were there especially to see where our families had lived before they came to the USA in the 19th century. And we totally lucked out on the weather.
