“Best B&B ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We had read the reviews and this delightful gem didn't disappoint. We had two rooms and both were immaculate and very comfortable. The rooms are tastefully decorated and stocked with lovely toiletries. The food is genuinely excellent and Tim sources the ingredients locally. Our intention had been to eat elsewhere after the first night but as the food was so good, we ate at the Vicarage every night of our three night stay in Wales. Each meal was preceded by wonderful canapes with drinks in the lounge. The wine list was excellent. Tim and Helen are excellent hosts. This gem is a great place to stay and worth visiting for for the food alone. We'll definitely stay again.

“Fantastic place for dinner, B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

This is a really, really great place to stay. Absolutely first class food, and extremely comfortable room. Everything is a very high standard throughout, just as the other reviews say. Because it is an old house with high ceilings, it is worth taking warm clothes in the winter, though, despite the wood fires.

“Wonderful food”

We only dined here, unfortunately we didn't get to stay.
The welome was lovely we were shown in to the sitting room with a roaring fireplace and nibbles on the table which were kettle type crisps and a plate of assorted olives with a dish of smoked sausage, quite a feastbefore we even sat down for the meal.
We had a choice of apple and parsnip soup or fish terrine for starter, the fish was delicious! Really delicious!
The main course was locally reared beef on a bed of celeriac mash and various veg. My meat just melted in the mouth i have to say the lady next to me had a bit of toughness in her meat but not wasn't my problem as i thouroughly enjoyed mine!! Halfway through the meal we were offered more meat or mash or veg which several members of our party took up, there was plenty.
Desert was to die for lemon possett on a bed os fresh raspberries. So refreshing yet pudding like?
A lady In our party got a little overwhelmed with the choice of deserts and when hers arrived he had thought that she was getting one of the other dishes but it was absolutely no problem for the hostess who took the unwanted pudding away and promptly returned with the preferred option.
We were very pleased with service and the meal, my only point to moan about woulb be the decor in the dining room, compared to the gorgeous sitting room it was disappointing. No candleabra or even candle, i really felt the table should have looked like a snapshot from a good food photoshoot but my real issue was wit the poor artwork on the walls did not like it and it didn't match the genre of the building, room or use of room, sorry.
Overall very good value for money and something different.

“A five star plus B&B with gastronomy to leave you breathless.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011 via mobile

The other reviews are all you need, except that we have to comment on dinner. The finest pink venison we have ever tasted with a delicious sauce and succulent vegetables complemented by an excellent Vaqureas. This was haute cuisine in totally relaxed surroundings at bargain price.
We would drive there just for dinner - and we live east of Birmingham.

“Punches well above its weight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Enjoyed a weekend break here and was delighted with our room. We were made very welcome on our arrival and enjoyed some tea and home made cake in the very comfortable lounge. Our bedroom was large and the en suite bathroom of almost equal size.
The bed linen was of high quality and the view, whilst on the road side of the house, had splendid panoramic views of the hills. (No, not noisy at all. This is Mid Wales, after all!) Whilst tastefully furnished and decorated, the addition of a comfortable chair would be a plus. There is plenty of storage and flat screen TV but reading in bed is slightly hampered by the use of low energy lights.
The bathroom is of equal size and the toiletries locally sourced and of good quality, as are the towels. The bath is a large, freestanding bath with the accompanying, gleaming taps and shower attachments to compliment the style. However, it is a long way down from the top of the bath to the bottom and good arms are needed if you want to lower yourself gently! The bathroom, like much else, has style. Everything is also spotlessly clean.
Dinner has a limited choice and we understand there is a vegetarian option. We had the chicken - it was beautifully cooked and tender. However, the cheese souffle was a masterpiece - do ask if it is on the menu. The choice of wine at the Old Rectory is very good and comprehensive and is so reasonably priced. There are only 4 rooms for guests and this ensures that, whilst bookings are apparently taken for dinner from non guests, the tables are not crowded at all.
Dinner is not provided on Sundays but, if you eat out, the New Inn pub, about 8 miles along the road had little atmosphere and the food was, shall we say, ....ok'ish! We won't be going there again! There are, we understand, other pubs worth visiting and not too far away. As we don't drink and drive we asked for a bottle of red in our room for when we returned from the pub meal and we were a little disappointed to find it chilly.
Breakfast in the spacious dining room was another masterpiece with a very good choice.
The food is fresh, locally sourced and organic. A note about the limited menu - we prefer that as everything is freshly and beautifully cooked and it does taste so much better.
This is a B&B of quality and the hosts help their guests as much as possible. They are also rightly concerned about the environment and use local suppliers as much as possible with organic food high on the list.
In summary, we were made welcome by the hosts and by their two little dogs and we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Book early - this is a gem.
