My partner and I stayed in Rhyl for one night, but had we not been booked in at the B&B we may have kept going!
The welcome at the B&B (Sandy Shores) wasn't great to start with - noone answered the door or the phone and we'd actually put our bags back in the car when my partner finally got through. The owner then gave us no polite welcome or apology for leaving us standing in the street, proceeding to answer the phone and send 'some twit' on his way who had the gall to ask for a room for the night!! (The place was empty apart from us, but he didn't want any other guests..!) The guest house was OK after this though and the accomodation & food was good.
We ventured into Rhyl and had a bit of fun in one of the arcades, but this was short lived and we found little else to do. The town centre was pretty awful (a depressing dump, to quote my partner) and the B&B owner had warned us off several places to eat due to food poisoning and said everywhere else would close by about 7pm!! After a windy game of crazy golf, we decided that we had to get out of there and drove to LLandudno on the advice of a friend, finding a beautiful place and a great restaurant where we camped out for the night!
I would advise anyone planning to visit Rhyl....not to!! and to head a few miles further round to Llandudno. Or at least, if you're already booked in, to have very low expectations so you're not disappointed and head out on as many day trips as possible!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if it wasn't for finding a safe-haven in Llandudno, this would have been a very depressing end to our weekend away.
