“Great family run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We spent 2 nights in this wonderful family run hotel. We paid slightly more for a larger ground floor room with direct access to a patio garden and entrance from the parking garage at the rear of the hotel. Our room was a good size and pleasantly decorated. The bathroom was spotless and the Duck Island toiletries were a nice touch.

The Hotel is well placed for visits to Snowdonia and Portmerion

The Bar menu was well priced, good portions and absolutely delicious. We were a little disappointed with the Rosette menu which although delicious and beautifully presented was pricey for small portions – that’s Rosette for you! If eating in the bar we would recommend you order from the classic British Fayre & specials menu.

Continental breakfast was included and was more than sufficient – no need to upgrade to cooked breakfast at £5 per head

The hotel is very dog friendly (allowed with the exception of Peppino's restaurant) and we would recommend it for people with or without dogs.
Great that you could eat in the bar, order from the same restaurant menu and have your dog join you.

“Great location and food of a 5*”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We stayed for 3 nights over New Years as a base for Snowdon and other walks:
Staff were professional, friendly and very helpful / accommodating.
Food was absolutely fantastic, we considered whether we should try somewhere else for an evening and couldn't on the fear of being disappointed. Quality produce, beautifully presented, served hot and great timing in the kitchen - a highlight of our stay. The scallop & cauliflower 3 ways is a must, as is the venison.
Room was on the second floor - clean, spacious enough and comfortable.

Great value and excellent for a 3* hotel. Recommend.

“Lovely little hotel!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Myself and my partner have just returned from a weekend at The Royal Sportsman Hotel, we had a larger double room which had plenty of space. It also had tea (more than one choice) coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. The room was very traditional and had a large bathroom with the normal hotel freebies ie shampoo, coditioner etc.
We ate in the main restaurant which was really nice, all food cooked fresh to order no pre-packed microwave rubbish. The bar was small and friendly and we felt very comfortable there.
The hotel is in the center of Porthmadog which is great although its not a particularly lively area.
Staff were very helpful and after I siad I didnt like anything on the menu the chef made some special for me whcih was delicious. Most of the food is sorced locally whic is nice. The hotel is clean and I would definately reccomend to others.
Overall a good experience

“TWO NIGHT STAY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The Hotel is an old coaching house on the main street in Pothmadog. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The star of the hotel is the chef, we ate from the Classic menu, the meals we ate were hot and cooked to perfection. The Chocolate Tort is to die for. When we return I hope to try the Rosette menu which should be excellent
The Hotel is well placed for visits to Snowdonia and Portmerrion

“Great for food and very friendly service”

If you are looking über chic then this is not for you but if you are looking for a family run, value for money, centrally located hotel to explore the wonders of
Snowdonia then stay here. The food certainly rates a mention with an interesting restaurant menu and excellent breakfast choice and good use of local produce. The staff are friendly and efficient and the owners obviously take a pride in their business. Thank you.
