Lovely castle with superb views. Common areas and, what I read also the rooms in main building, are nice and what you expect from the pictures. We stayed in cheaper rooms in the annex and they are really, really worn out and are screaming to be refurbished. Bathroom was cheap US motel level. Beds were good and surroundings made up the stay.
Restaurant was trying bit too hard and aimed too high with not fully delivering. Ate dinner there on the first night but would not do it again with the same price levels. Serving staff were trying their best but slipped a lot. With this I mean if they want to be 'high end' eatery then make sure you staff knows the etiquette and follows it. All the time. Food was OK but many small mishaps of over/undercooked ingredients. Small whiny stuff but if you charge the money then you should deliver. And on the breakfast if you burn the croissants you dump them and heat up new batch a and don't put them out to the guest in this level place.
Dining wise worth to drive down (or even take a taxi) to the village that has many wonderful restaurants.
Lots of small points to mention but if you charge upper scale price you should deliver. In general the stay was pleasant and sitting in the bar/library after dinner with wee dram of whisky was very pleasant and the views from the restaurant are one of the best I've seen. If we go there again will stay in the main building.
