“Delicious meal - fantastic guinness!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

We went to the Fleur de Lys just for a meal. What a fantastic experience. My husband is a guinness drinker, and saw the draught tap, but the owner got out a can and began to pour, my husband commented on the no draught issue, she said bare with me you will never know the difference, what a fantastic pint, I will say no more you have to experience this for yourself!! The ambience was fantastic, very cosy, the meal was piping hot and delicious. I had bacon and duck salad to start followed by the lamb which was sensational. My husband had the fishcake to start followed by the seabass again delicious. Of course we found room for a desert Eton Mess and sticky toffee pudding. This whole experience was fantastic. The service was very good, and times between courses was just right. Will definately go again. Dont be put off by the narrow drive to the car park!! We made it in and out ha ha.

“Best Sunday Roast in Oxfordshire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

I never write reviews but I kinda feel Fleur de Lys ought to be famous. People should flock here for their Sunday lunch and hail their incredible Yorkshire pudding - an enormous pud for four persons, the tastiest thing I've mopped up my gravy with for years. They charge £15 in Gastropubs for this kind of thing yet it's £8.50 here. Warm friendly staff eager to please and the kids love the garden play area (though the concrete at the end of the slide is dangerous!). Basically don't go anywhere else for Sunday lunch if you live in south Oxfordshire! .

“What you see is what you get - an old character pub not a plush hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

We booked to stay one night and were almost put off by some of the reviews - don't be. It is a very old building but the rooms are clean and tidy. You will get noise from the road (and the church clock) but that is part of staying in an old village pub. The service was friendly and food was good - the menu was limited that night but the chef made us a veggie meal that was not on the menu, at a very good price. The bar was very busy (Wednesday night) and lots of people were eating, as a result the service was slow but we did not find this a problem as all meals were cooked to order.
If you want to stay somewhere simple with a bit of character - stay here. If you want large rooms, air con and double glazing - choose somewhere else.

“Absolutely beautiful...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

It really was.. We needed somewhere to stay just for one night, as we were attending a wedding nearby. The pub was beautiful, about a twenty minute drive from the centre of Oxford, set opposite the Abbey in this lovely little village. Everyone was friendly, although we didn't stay long we felt very welcome.. and it was long enough to enjoy both the wonderful food (we had lunch the next day and I would recommend the home-made steak and kidney pudding) and the rather large garden (which I believe is undergoing a revamp). I would definitely recommend this place, now I just need a reason to go back.

“Run by children!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

Not sure what to say but it wasn't a good stay i agree idyllic pub lovely setting.
The staff were useless no manners and running around like headless chickens.
The noise from bar unbearable, banging doors and people swearing out front building while smoking, the room was not clean and lights not working. When i asked to speak to manager he/she couldn't be bothered so had to deal with a boy! I agree with comments about dogs on furniture and smelling.
A local explained that the owners had lost interest last few months and how good it had been in the past and he apologized for them. Totally wrong the whole place needs a shake up. In future id rather pay to stay in travel lodge.
