“Perfect Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We have just spent three nights at The George Hotel from 15/1/12, We found the staff friendly and accommodating, we would like to thank Leon and Kim they were the perfect hosts, the room was clean and tidy but could get a little cold at times, saying that the weekend we stayed was freezing outside. The restaurant menu and meals were excellent and the bar area inviting we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again

“Avoid the rib-eye steak”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We went here for lunch as a treat from my mum. Two of us ordered the ribeye steak at £21.95 each. My mum, especially, was really looking forward to a nice steak, and was happy to pay the extra cost. Unfortunately, when the steaks arrived, they looked nothing like ribeyes. Instead of being nice, plump and juicy, they were thin and disappointing, nothing medium rare about them at all. Definitely not what I'd call a prime piece of steak. Such a shame. Needless to say, we wont be going back there again.

“What a find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

From the moment we checked in we were made to feel welcome, the hotel was recommended to us by friends who had stayed earlier in the year (who also enjoyed there stay in Dorchester!)

The staff were delightful, the food was fantastic and the bar was always busy (with very chatty locals!) looked at both other pub(/hotels?) in the area and they were completely empty!

Will definately be going back!!

“A pleasant surprise.”

My company booked this hotel as the usual one in the area was full..... What good fortune! After a little confusion regarding our reservations (the company hadn't included our names in the reservation) my colleague and I were instantly upgraded to a four poster room each.
The room was large and luxuriously appointed, and the bathroom bigger than the whole room in our regular hotel.
Over the week of our stay, the breakfasts were lovely, the staff friendly and attentive and spending a few hours winding down in the bar after work was a pleasure. Indeed, as one finished a pint another was placed on the table at your hand.
The location is also great, with the Abbey across the road and a number of pubs/restaurants within walking distance.

Highly recommended.

“Restaurant review”

We walked in to The George Hotel restaurant on a Saturday night and it was completely empty. This is always a bad sign but we decided to stay and see for ourselves if the food here has improved since our last visit about 3 years ago. After our order was taken, we could hear the microwave going in the kitchen. We took bets on what they were heating up and when the meal arrived I think it was actually the roast beef - it certainly looked like it. This was served with just one roast potato and cost just under £13. My partner declared it very poor but nearly edible. I ordered fish and chips for £11.95 and this was, without doubt, the worst fish I have ever had. It was unbelievably oily and the oil was even inside the batter. It was inedible and I complained to the manager (at least, I think he was the manager). He didn't seem remotely interested and after this we didn't see him again for the rest of the meal. We abandoned plans for dessert and coffee and left very quickly. I would never normally settle the bill for such a poor meal but, on this occasion, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I haven't been to a restaurant for many years where the food and service has been so poor. Interestingly, we went for a walk around Dorchester-on-Thames after this and I noticed that the White Hart hotel restaurant was packed. Note to self: if a restaurant is empty on the busiest night of the week there is a reason for it. I don't know who owns the George hotel but please look at your restaurant because it needs some serious attention.
