We book a lot of B&B's and were asked to black-list this one by the guests that stayed there.
Room had visible damp, no central heating system and the electric heaters in the room were broken so the room was freezing. A curtain was missing. The room stank of smoke. There was a rave downstairs that lasted until 1am (never ideal, especially when travelling for business).
We won't be booking at The Chequers again.

“Still Room To Improve, But better than expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

We stoped here for the second time, basically because we needed to be in Holbeach. We had been there before, around 4 years ago, and was not expecting much. You dont have too many options in Holbeach. The hotel is basically a pub with rooms. That said this time our double room was quite pleasent and ceratinly clean. The other room we booked was a twin and over the main pub area. This was not good when the pub music came blasting through. It was also near their bottle bank that meant on sunday at 07.00 people had the benefit of an alarm call created by the throwing of bottles into the bin. We ate at mid day as well as breakfast. In general the food tasted ok, although it was not always easy to spot a knife or fork or even a cup without some kind of dirt on it that the last wash had missed. Overall better than I expected but has a way to go to be the big tick

“A little tired but clean and ok for an overnighter”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

The hotel is currently being refurbished but at present the rooms do need a good lick of paint and freshening up and the carpets are in need of being changed. The rooms however were clean. I would advise the hotel to changes the matresses as these were not the most comfortable. The bathroom was ok, again clean but desperately needed modernising. Plenty of hot water in my room but my parents had no hot water in their room due to the hot water being switched off in error - these things happen and there was hot water later on.

Breakfast could not be faulted and was cooked to order. Cereal, full english, pretty much your choice, which was a good.

My room was on the front and it was a little noisy durng the night as the original sash windows were in need of being fixed up but my parents who were on the back of the property advised is was very quiet.

Overall an OK stay and fine for a night or two - when the refurbishment is completed the hotel will be good - although not sure if the refurbishment will extend to the bedrooms. I would say however that until the rooms are updated there are some other B&B's etc in close proximity which would be my preference for the sake of an extra £5 or so

“Far too expensive for what's on offer!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2009

Stayed there one Friday evening end of May 2009, bedroom was smelly, but was moved to another room which was slightly better, bathroom all black mould and shower crap! Breakfast in morning was rather disgusting to say the least, burnt to a cinder. Unless you are absolutely skint and desperate, then please stay away!
