“A trip down a changed memory lane”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

I am an alumni of the local university, so I am very familiar with the history of the place. When I graduated the building housed one of the university buildings and a theatre in the attic. So a completely different place.
When I was invited to a dinner at my old student's union, just up the road from this hotel, we decided that a night here would be a better choice than driving back.
Arriving there was a bit of a mission as a traffic pylon was installed in front of the hotel and our navigation system was not aware of this. So we had to driver around to get to the parking place. (You have to drive in over the Generaal Foulkesweg)
The entrance way was exactly as how I remembered it. The inside is completely different You enter a great space and face the kitchen of the O Mundo restaurant. Modern and as efficient as one expects form such an establishment. We were shown our room on the first floor facing the cheese shop across the road. The room was modern, spacious, well laid out and the bed comfortable. Loved the fact that it has an old-fashioned thing in using real keys! The bathroom slightly odd in lay out. Nitpicky things would be that the door to the shower was not installed correctly resulting in water dripping onto the mat in front of it and that in winter underfloor heating would have been more comfortable. But really the room is very nice to stay in.
The breakfast is included in the room price and as one would expect with a michelin star kitchen breakfast and service were excellent. Coffee wonderful, fresh orangejuice and fruit, boiled egg and an abundance of choice of breads, preserves, meats etc. We really enjoyed it.

It is fun to go back to part of your history and see how it has changed and how it hasn't. The fact that this hotel, once designated to university building is back to it's historical roots is one of the developments I have to applaud. If we have another invitation like we had this time we will do the same thing again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back are probably quieter, but at the front is it more fun to look out of the windo...

“Excellent Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

I fell in love with this hotel! Huge rooms and very clean. Breakfast was very decent, wifi is free of charge. Service was very good as well. Just pay attention, check in stops at around 10 pm!

“Mixed experience - not good value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2011

We were pleased with the size of our room (family room for two adults and a child), although the television was a rather small portable size. The double bed was comfortable but the fold away bed for our son was so uncomfortable he chose to sleep on the floor

At breakfast time there was minimal selection of cereals, and after waiting for quite a while we eventually asked what else there was. The waiter told us our breakfast was being cooked - we explained we are vegetarian so didn't want a cooked breakfast. I didn't like the way we were not asked what we wanted, and there wasn't much of an alternative for anyone not wanting a cooked breakfast. We were told they didn't do toast, and instead a small selection of rolls were produced. The pot of tea was extremely weak.

Very disappointed, especially as the attitude of the waiter was off hand.

“Historical hotel in Wageningen Centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

We love good food, so since we heard that the hotel De Wereld's O Mundo restaurant received a Michelin star last November 2009, we decided to book an arrangement for a 5 course dinner with a nights stay.
The O Mundo is excellent, food sensational. Great location. Personally I do not like it when restaurants place tables towards walls so that 1 of the 2 people faces a blind wall. We were first escorted to such a table, but seeing that more tables were free, we immediately asked for a round table better centered.
The wine arrangement is good, but not cheap. In all O Mundo meets expetatioins.
The hotel room is nice and neat. However, it was a warm evening and there is no airco so the room was sticky and hot. And our room faced the street, so that way past midnight we heard all the youths go out and talking when walking throught the main street. This was nog so nice and led to our having a very unrestfull night.
The hotel is nicely decorated.
Breakfast good.
In all the arrangement was good, but I'd choose this in the winter, to make sure you have a good nights rest after a great dinner (there is no airco in the rooms)!

“Simply one of the better hotels in the Netherlands”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2009

My wife and I stayed in Hotel de Wereld for our wedding night(s). Because of this we arrived around midnight on friday, which wasn't a problem. There was even someone to help us with our suitcases. We had a 2 night 3 day package which included the room and 2 dinners.
The room was very clean and quite spacious for Dutch standards. Also it had a modern look yet was also cozy. The beds were big (again, bigger than usually encountered) and very comfortable. The bathroom was equiped with a shower and a bath, both work perfectly. Also the bathroom was very spacious, there was more than enough space to move around, even with 2 people.
The breakfast was great, there was a nice selection of bread and the staff was very willing to help all the time. You sit down and breakfast is served to you within 10 minutes including coffee, tea, any egg you'd like, fresh orange juice, and a selection of cold cuts, cheese and sweet stuff. We also had breakfast in bed one morning, that was delicious and just as good as in the restaurant downstairs.
Our package also included 2 dinners. These weren't ordinary dinners though. It's just something you have to experience. The ingredients that are used and the combination of ingredients is just mouth-watering. We choose to just be surprised by what the chef would make for us. Ironically we were served a lot of fish, which we usually don't choose if it's on the menu. But we both loved it! To me that says enough, if the food that is served is something I usually don't like so much, but the way it is prepared I do like it. Especially fun: the PRE-dessert! and the many little amuses and in between bites you get.
Our second night we had dinner in a subsidiary restaurant of the hotel, owned and operated by the same chef as de Wereld, called Drinks & Bites. It's a 10 minute walk away on the main square of wagening.
It has a very nice atmosphere and the food was of the same high quality and taste as in the wereld. Just great!
We paid 450 euro's for it all and it was totally worth it! The hotel is also a very important historical place. It's special to know that you're eating breakfast in the same room where the Germans signed the unconditional surrender......
