“A picturesque view from your balcony and a perfect receptionist by the name of Jan Metz.....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

added to a modest price (€ 79.- breakfast included),do make up for the smallness of the room and the even tinier, very basic, bathroom, BUT....,

breakfast, however, was unforgivable , inexcusable , in all honesty; the worst hotel experience of the year!
Entering the breakfast room at 9 o clock on a Sunday morning, we found, apart from 3 slices of bread and one (green) hardboiled egg, absolutely nothing on all the displays, no coffee, no hot water to make tea, no juice, no butter, no yogurts, no fruit and I could go on!
The room filled with people waiting for refills...
When this finally happened, one dish at a time, every time after a long wait, there was such a rush, that, if you didn’t want to put up a fight, you ended up with no cheese or, whatever.
Actually, it made no difference, because it would be another 10 minutes wait for the bread to put it on!
Half an hour later, even more guests entered to have breakfast and it could have been almost amusing, if we wouldn’t have been so hungry ourselves, to watch the astonished expression on their faces when they lined up for this empty counter and not only couldn’t find any food, neither there were any plates left, nor cutlery!
We left after an hour, without even having tea or coffee!
Checking out of this hotel and, of course, complaining about-the lack- of breakfast, the sorry excuse from the (lady)receptionist on duty, really made it even worse than it already was: “ Sorry about that, but it seems that personnel had a late night out”!
I am sooo very sorry for Mr. Jan Metz, who proved to have a very professional, completely different attitude, when we made this reservation!
Management, I strongly advise you to shape up your act!
What a waste of opportunities and possibilities!

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room with balcony and a view on the river!

“Nice hotel with the best view in Wageningen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

The hotel is situated withing 3-4 km from the city center and 24 min by bus from the train st. Ede-Wageningen, in green area on a top of a "mountain". There is an impressive view from the hotel on Nederrijn river and green areas around. One could take a nice walk to the city center through Arboretum, which is a very beautiful park. It was great to take some vine or beer in the afternoon from the hotel terrace offering such a beautiful view! A wedding on Saturday and the following party has restricted our possibility to be on the terrace, but we could still seat outside and use the hotel bar. A good place to enjoy nature while living under "civilized conditions" and overall a good place to stay.

The room was clean, with a pleasant temperature and everything was functioning well.
One could choose both warm food (saucages, eggs, becon, oven-baked tomatoes with cheese) and cold food (bread, different cheese and meat and otherr things for bread, fermented milk,...) for the breakfast. For lunch the amount of food dishes was rather limited: 4 different mayonase-based salads, some peaces of fresh vegetables, "main dish" and a soup. One could choose to make sandwiches as well.

A double room costed us 60,5 euro in August.

“beautiful place, but urgently needs renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

this hotel on a hill overlooking the Rhine is certainly privileged by the location, but has hardly anything else to offer these days, the staff was friendly and efficient, the room was reasonably clean - and the place seems to be attractive for parties of all kinds - but this hotel is truly worn out and urgently needs a renovation, everything looked as if nothing has been changed for at least 25 years - would not be keen on coming here again

“Great breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2010

Rooms are on the small size for American standards, but well laid out and nice size for European standards. Breakfast was amazing, make sure you walk or bike, otherwise you will gain weight. Even though I was walking and biking everywhere, I did.
Staff was usually helpful, mostly english speaking. Restaurant is very good, though a bit pricey (eating well in the Netherlands generally is though).
Distance to any sights is at least a mile, make sure to rent a bike, or car if you are brave.
