A nightmare from the start. We choose the Quinta Do Pinheiro Eco Resort, to hold our wedding and for a place for 30+ members of my family and friends to stay, including 9 children. I will list the problems we had from the very start: Buildings not completed with prisoners and one prison guard, being used to work on what was essentially a building site right opposite the pool. Most of the activities on the website not available and the indoor pool and health club a shell of a building. Electrical wires left lying acroos main walkways. Both children's and adult's pools too dirty to use upon arrival, with overgrown grass and weeds around one and mud and tufts of newly planted grass around the other. A broken bottle left outside patio doors of one room where 3 toddlers would be staying and playing. A manhole cover balancing against a wall, whilst the actual hole was exposed, again directly outside a patio door. 3 cots promised, 2 received 1 received at 10pm having been promised it at 3pm, baby unable to go down for a sleep despite travelling all day. Then upon arrival it is broken, has a dirty mattress and no bedding. Rarely someone on reception and usually only one or two members of staff available, despite having a bar and 2 restaurants and covering around 8 acres!!. This resulted in very long waits for drinks, up to one hour one evening. And a long wait, again 1 hour, for 2 hot chocolates to help 2 children get off to sleep. Also a non-existent 24hr reception twice resulted in guests being locked out all night. Fridges not working in 2 of the rooms. A chest of drawers glued shut in one of the rooms with no other space for clothes. A leaky toilet in one room and leaky showers in 3 others. In 4 of the rooms containing a total of 9 adults and 5 children the heating began to come on randomly at night and in the day. This was reported to the managing director who declared it impossible. With the temperatures exceeded 30 degrees outside during the night, it was impossible to sleep. Only after 5 days and 4 nights of constant complaints was an engineer sent for. Finally, having had enough of the continuous problems and terrible service the remaining guests had enough and decided to check out 4 days early. They gave the hotel 48 hours notice of their intentions and were promptly advised that they would have to pay the full amount, including the 4 days that they no longer required, due to the increasingly poor conditions. The managing director proceeded to lock all the gates and parked Land Rovers in front of our vehicles, preventing them and us (the happily married couple who had paid in full) from leaving until the outstanding bills were settled. They held us to ransom and we had no choice but to pay, losing over £300. This hotel made a fortune from the guests as most stayed for a week and ate there and bought drinks there, despite the conditions, because it was convenient for 30 people including children not to have to move around. This is the reason we chose this place. Our wedding was held there, this actually went very well, but again they made a great deal of money, far more than £300. To be treated like this towards the end of our "honeymoon" was appalling and upset us a great deal. It was disturbing to be "held to ransom" as we were and embarrassing for us as we chose the place for everyone to stay, we felt responsible. I would not recommend this Eco Resort to anyone, especially NOT families and hope this review has prevented travellers from encountering the many problems we endured.
