“Will return for the Peace of it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Ancient convent partly turned into hotel, with very succesful adaptating of the cells to comfortable if somewhat small rooms. Beautifully at harmony with the surrounding mountains this is truly one for total quiet and getting away from .. pretty much everything.
Very helpful trilingual staff, more than decent food and very good prices. And so very quiet and relaxing. I stayed a weekend, all by myself - but I suspect I could have brought the whole family and stay for a month and no one would complain of boredom. The ideal place to recharge batteries. Or paint. Or write. Or explore the nearby villages that seem to be living (as opposed to being ghostly) in another century... But with mod coms.

“Nice place but room moist”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2011

Nice and historic place !
Problem is that it is not suited for people that have breathing problems like astma because the rooms are moist ! If you walk in the corridors you smell the moist in the building.
My wife had an astmatic attack because of the room-climate, but to be honest ; we got a suite offered the second night with no surcharge ! So service etc is excellent.
The restaurant is good but not more than that ; if you want a nice and real portugese meal go to redondo - across the church is a small bar (not in the side street, but really across) the church ... if you walk through the bar there is a small restaurant in the back ... had a hughe fish (dorade) for 9 euros and try to get also Bochechas (pigs cheeks) ...
Also nice place to eat is in Evora Restaurante Cozinha de ste Humberto in the Rua da Moede (sidestreet of the main market square).

“What a place!”

Fantastic ex-convent, now hotel. The decor is amazing, the scenery is fantastic, the rooms are lovely. It has retained the old convent look, but has added in modern art. Sounds weird but it seems to work!

“excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

Hotel is inserted in an old convent, and the architect has kept the history alive. Really long corridors with "azulejos", chapel, cloister, quiet and comfort - and additionally a very good restaurant. Friendly reception. The convent is placed in a secluded area, but still very near the Lisbon highway, Estremoz and Evora. and very easily accesible.
Large rooms, historic furniture, comfortable. I suppose in high summer the rooms are still cool, because the walls are thick.
External ares include a swimming pool reached through historic courtyard, and a small lake, surrounded by nature trails. Highly recommended.

“Amazing place to rest”

Room 126 (superior type) on the new wing.
LIKED
Bed
Sleep quality (the best ever found in a hotel)
Breakfast (first day)
Staff
Prices at the bar (€1 for a expresso, €3 for an Irish coffee)
Free wifi Net (with content control)
Bathroom with tub and shower
Amenities imported from England (shampoo, gel...)
Robe
DISLIKED
Restaurant (clams imported from Vietnam, rude employee...)
Room decoration
humidity after the shower (A/C is the only solution avaiable)
Dust in the air (near the church)
small windows (natural light very weak)
Breakfast (last day)

If you want a place to sleep, read, meditate, walk in a forrest, than we have to stay there at least 3 nights (like we did).
Seat in a table at the cloister with the foutain and just listen the sound of the water... it's incredible relaxing.
The effort to restore this ancient convent is remarkable.
