“Very nice...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2010

Very nice, clean B&B. Grounds and views were wonderful. Our only complaint was that the hotel does not have a restaurant, so we had to drive around for a restaurant at night. The roads of Tuscany are curvy and narrow so it was more difficult driving to find a restaurant than expected. However, the breakfast portion of the B&B was very good.

“Enjoy the romance of a Tuscany in this pretty corner of Chianti”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2010

Plus - quiet beautiful grounds and surrounds, high quality service
Minus - we stayed in the apartment and the people upstairs (permanent residence) were too noisy

You need to be driving if you want to enjoy the Chianti region. If you have a car, stay here - just make sure you've had enough wine to sleep through any yelling from upstairs.

“I love it here - just beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2010

We stayed at La Canonica a few weeks ago in the Merrigio apartment with our 3 children. The minute you walk in the gates of the hotel/ BB you smell the beautiful rosemary garden which is maintained immaculately. We loved our villa, the gardens, the pool area, and even sampled the house wine which was also good.

Many many thanks to Erica and Claudia who were so helpful from the start. Their recommendations for restauarants etc in the area were perfect. I loved all the small villages around the area and could have easily spent another week ( a car is a must though). If and when we return to Italy we will definitely stay here again.

“Beautiful setting, okay rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2009

We stayed here for a few nights in the B&B building. The grounds here are beautiful and tranquil and we enjoyed the setting. The rooms were okay, a small bedroom with a good sized bathroom. There wasn't any air conditioning and room was a little stuffy, but it was October so perhaps they'd turned it off. The location was central and withing 20-30 minutes driving distance to Tuscany sites like Sienna and Volterra. Overall we had a nice, but not memorable stay. I'd consider staying here again but would also look around first.

“Spectacular...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2009

We rented the apartment named "Bacco 1". Outstanding floor level apartment. Patio looked out over vineyards and olive trees. The grounds of this gem are meticulous and beautiful....lined with hedge-rows of bay leaf and rosemary. Pool area is quiet and clean. Great place to chill. You will not be disappointed. The apartments offer a more independent experience which is what we were looking for. The weather...sunny and 75-80 degrees everyday.
I found the villa's consierge people to be very nice. However, their response to a request for information for local spa resorts was less than impressive. I had to call the resorts myself to confirm availability.
If you tend to be the "needy" type and want to be pampered a bit more....then the B&B would serve you better. It is on the same grounds as the apartments and is as equally impressive.
Its a great spot for day trips to any of the surrounding small towns and hamlets as well as Florence and Siena. We even did a day trip to Pisa and the ocean nearby.
A rental car is a must. We STRONGLY recommend renting a Garmin or Tom-Tom to use there. That was the best preemptive plan we made.
We would highly recommend this spot. The wine festivals in September are AWESOME....the Sangiovese grape rules the day!
