We ended up here after arriving late and trying to get a room at the Mosco Inn as I think it was cheaper but there were none left so the receptionist from Mosco Inn called here and asked if they would give us a room for the price of their standard room which they agreed to which was nice of them, so plus points there.
It then turned out that although we needed a room for 2 nights, we had to upgrade again as the normal room was only available for 1 night. So finally we were given a luxury room, but had to pay a bit more for it (which I'm sure they could have waived if they wanted to at 8pm at night). The deal we got was great though, given that the rack rate is 185euros per night- we paid 100euros. That said, I do not think the room was worth anywhere near 185euros. Granted, you do get a terrace, but it's not completely private and the bathroom is tiny and there is no special touches to the room in particular.
The hotel itself is gorgeous outside and in, really nicely done and very stylish and boutique like. The french receptionist on our arrival was very helpful and very nice. He made us feel very welcome and provided a table in the lounge area with 2 gorgeous looking cakes and jugs of oranges/lemons in water for guests to help themselves to throughout the day which was a nice touch. I say he did this, as it didn't seem to be the case the next day unless the table was hidden around a corner somewhere.
Our room was a little bland, but perhaps that was because it was so big, so to me felt a bit empty. We stayed in the luxury room which had to be the highest room in the hotel. Not the best location in that it appeared to be right next to a bell tower which went off at 7am really loudly, but a good work out on the thighs getting up there!
The female receptionist we had on checkout appeared to have gotten out of the wrong side of bed, or perhaps she was really offended that we mistook her for ordinary staff, either way she was pretty grumpy, didn't smile once and was not what you would expect in a hotel of this caliber.
Breakfast appears to follow the same rule in the Hotel Palazzo del Corso hotels - if the ham/cheese/bread/croissants runs out, don't worry about it, replenish it whenever you feel like it. They could definitely improve on the cheese selection for the non italian guests; I know Italians love cake for breakfast, but I am rather a savoury breakfast fan. Breakfast also starts rather late at 8.30 which is the latest I think I have ever seen, which meant we didn't get a full breakfast on the day we had to get our flight which I'm sure doesn't make us a unique case. They did allow us coffee and a croissant at least though, but not without miss grumpy informing us that breakfast hadn't technically started, implying that we should be grateful for what we did get.
The free wifi was a plus.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel if you can get a deal on it. It certainly has character or if you listen to the receptionist, it has soul! Just make sure you get down to breakfast before everything runs out!
Room Tip: The rooms with the terraces are lovely if a little pricey.
