“friendly & wonderful”

Stayed there in August 2011, as a walk in. We were exloring the area & had no reservations, the reception was very helpful, took care of the car as we didn't know that cars without permits were not allowed in the city center.
The French gentelman at reception went out of his way to help with the cell phone card problem, very very sweet of him.
Rooms were lovely, very elegant. Loved the hotel building, it is a small maze of interconnecting buildings. We had a small courtyard to ourselves. Breakfast was lovely too.
The hotel is very very close to the sandy beach.
Will definately stay there again & will explore the sister hotels.

Dear Azer,
I am happy that the charme of our structure did your holiday magic! This is the reason why it is so easy for us to be kind...we work in the most beautifull Hotel of Gallipoli!
But you are right, you should also visit our sister hotels, Palazzo del corso and Palazzo Mosco Inn
in Gallipoli, and Relais Valle dell' Idro in Otranto, you will not be disappointed at all. But remember,
if you do so, you can not leave salento without visiting us, we will before share a drink!!

“Nice boutique style hotel in good location in Gallipoli”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

We ended up here after arriving late and trying to get a room at the Mosco Inn as I think it was cheaper but there were none left so the receptionist from Mosco Inn called here and asked if they would give us a room for the price of their standard room which they agreed to which was nice of them, so plus points there.

It then turned out that although we needed a room for 2 nights, we had to upgrade again as the normal room was only available for 1 night. So finally we were given a luxury room, but had to pay a bit more for it (which I'm sure they could have waived if they wanted to at 8pm at night). The deal we got was great though, given that the rack rate is 185euros per night- we paid 100euros. That said, I do not think the room was worth anywhere near 185euros. Granted, you do get a terrace, but it's not completely private and the bathroom is tiny and there is no special touches to the room in particular.

The hotel itself is gorgeous outside and in, really nicely done and very stylish and boutique like. The french receptionist on our arrival was very helpful and very nice. He made us feel very welcome and provided a table in the lounge area with 2 gorgeous looking cakes and jugs of oranges/lemons in water for guests to help themselves to throughout the day which was a nice touch. I say he did this, as it didn't seem to be the case the next day unless the table was hidden around a corner somewhere.

Our room was a little bland, but perhaps that was because it was so big, so to me felt a bit empty. We stayed in the luxury room which had to be the highest room in the hotel. Not the best location in that it appeared to be right next to a bell tower which went off at 7am really loudly, but a good work out on the thighs getting up there!

The female receptionist we had on checkout appeared to have gotten out of the wrong side of bed, or perhaps she was really offended that we mistook her for ordinary staff, either way she was pretty grumpy, didn't smile once and was not what you would expect in a hotel of this caliber.

Breakfast appears to follow the same rule in the Hotel Palazzo del Corso hotels - if the ham/cheese/bread/croissants runs out, don't worry about it, replenish it whenever you feel like it. They could definitely improve on the cheese selection for the non italian guests; I know Italians love cake for breakfast, but I am rather a savoury breakfast fan. Breakfast also starts rather late at 8.30 which is the latest I think I have ever seen, which meant we didn't get a full breakfast on the day we had to get our flight which I'm sure doesn't make us a unique case. They did allow us coffee and a croissant at least though, but not without miss grumpy informing us that breakfast hadn't technically started, implying that we should be grateful for what we did get.

The free wifi was a plus.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel if you can get a deal on it. It certainly has character or if you listen to the receptionist, it has soul! Just make sure you get down to breakfast before everything runs out!

Room Tip: The rooms with the terraces are lovely if a little pricey. Be sure to utilise the free parking be...

“A hideaway haven in the alleyways of Gallipoli.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

Restored and resplendent with lovely attention to detail - this was a good and probably the best choice in Gallipoli.

Entering Gallipoli is confusing and before you know it youre in the main old town which is illegal. Parking is difficult and we pulled over for one of us to walk to the hotel with the bags to then be informed we couldn't stay parked in the old town. You can however park for free in the harbour carpark.

Once in the hotel we were greeted with fresh fruit and juices and a very friendly front of desk. Our illegal entry into the old town was wiped out with a signed statement from the hotel proving we were residents which stopped any fine being issued. The same is given on the day you drive in to collect your bags.

The hotel is a myriad of steps and levels which are cute and impressive.
Our room was a good size, clean, cool and with a shower.

Breakfast on the roof terrace was perfect with a great range of fruit, cakes and jams.

Gallipoli itself is architecturally beautiful but in July/August it was heaving at night and unfortunately tacky. A lack of nice shops that DON'T sell naff tshirts, sponges and postcards leaves you yearning for a bit of class away from the slow walking coach loads of tourists.

There are some nice bars/restaurants on the ramparts section of the city but nothing special and you just leave wishing someone would take control of the city and do something to stop it turning into somewhere not worth visiting. The sheer fact the local council has allowed a hideous concrete block of offices to be built looming over the front of the city is proof nobody in local govt gives a damn which is a HUGE shame.

That said, if you want to explore this southern tip of Italy and take in the stunning Baia Verde and Maldives of Salento then Gallipoli and this hotel is the best location to stay - by far.

Dear MrJ,
Thank you for your very nice and detailed review, the compliments for the staff and also your beautiful photos, it is always an honor to be reviewed positively by someone who has traveled all over the world…
I agree with you on one important point (and for this one I take off my Hotel responsible suit, and speak only through my foreigner open-mind): Relais Corte Palmieri is really the best and most authentic place to stay for the foreigners . And the numerous international positive review from UK, France, Sweden, Germany, Australia… (we are the only Hotel –also with our chain Hotel - with so many international reviews) prove me right.
And I unfortunately agree with you about Gallipoli and its administration. I hope someday they will wake up…
I wish you the best, enjoy your travels, and in case you are back in salento, you know where we are...!!

“Lovely hotel in Gallipoli Old Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

The hotel is in an old rabbit warren of a building beautifully converted. Pleasant welcome on arrival and we'd been upgraded, I have some ideas why.
The superior room we were given wasn't as superior as some of the others, although it had a large roof terrace it did not have a good shaded area, and this made it pretty difficult for us to use most of it since we are shade seekers! If you book a superior check what terrace shade you have!
The room was spacious and clean with fridge, safe and good air con. The bathroom very small.
Breakfast was taken on the shaded roof terrace and we had a good selection of cakes, pastries, fruit, bread, jams, juice, meat etc. Hot drinks are replenished by efficient staff.
The Reception staff tried to help but frankly weren't very knowledgeable. While we were there it was the saints day festivities but due to their confusion we missed events or only caught them by chance. The instructions about how to get to the beach at Baia Verde (the best place around here) by bus weren't very clear. They need some local staff on the desk, "I'm sorry I don't come from Gallipoli" is hardly acceptable!

Room Tip: Ask about shade for superior rooms

Miss & Mister, first off all, thank you for having taken the time to write a review about us. I remember you well and that’s why I am quite disappointed after reading your review. And I have to correct some points.
You booked a superior room and, as you have written, you have been upgraded, but to a luxury room, not to another superior. And there are no reason for that, we do it when our planning permit us to. Some of our superior have the balcony, some of them are on two floors, but none of them have the private roof, only the luxury do. And you have seen how is done our hotel: the roof is an open-air space (some Italian client on this site have described it as a Moroccan Greek style roof), that we have tried to keep as it is for its historical context. You should have stayed on the long-chairs under the roof of bamboo, just on the left of your room.
Finally, and I am really sorry to have to justify everything from your comments, you have seen that from the reception we have helped you for the restaurants, for the beach, for the bus (maybe it was not clear just because the service itself is not clear…) for finding an auto in bari… you should have told us how important it was for you to see all the events, we would clearly have found.
In fact, I am just disappointed because you should have told us all this thing during your stay, not after.
Anyway, I will have a good remember of you and hope that it is the same for you. take care.

“Very Nice Hotel - Highly Recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

The hotel is located in the old part of Gallipoli and is housed in a beautiful old building in one of the many narrow side streets.

We arrived without a reservation but the staff went out of their way to accomodate us. We stayed for two nights and we had to change rooms due to prior bookings but we agreed to this and it was wasn't a problem.

Both rooms were tastefully decorated and were well appointed. Nether room had any kind of view and both were quite dark. This, however did not detract from our stay.

The staff at this hotel are absolutely fantastic! They have clearly been well trained in customer service and nothing was too much trouble.

Breakfasts here are a real treat and are served on the rooftop. The choice was excellent.but on a warm day you need to be in the area with a bamboo roof. On our second morning it was busy and we could not find a table with any shade. On departure at least two of the staff appologised for the fact that breakfast was busy and we had to sit in the sun. There aren't many places where this would have been acknowledged.

Dear beautiful muscular legs bikers, thank you for your kind review!!
I take the opportunity to add that in the meanwhile we have built a new roof in order to cover the part where there was no shade. So the problem you faced will never happen again..
I hope you will come back to see it!!
Best regards.
