“lovely staff, terrible bathrooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

I travelled to this hotel as the first part of a Page and Moy trip to Puglia. The hotel staff were delightful; the restaurant spacious and spotless, the food good, the bar prices extremely fair, and the large lounge/foyer very pleasant. The bedrooms were basic, but that was OK as we had been warned this would be so. But the bathrooms! To be honest, they were a disgrace; rusting shower pipes, shower head that allowed only a trickle of water, hot water only intermittently (some of our party had none during the whole stay), and the plug in the washbasin didn't fit. If they could refurbish the bathrooms it would be a pleasant enough place to stay.

“Did not rate this as a three star hotel.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

This hotel was a disappointment. There was a superb outdoor swimming pool and a nice dining room. However the bedrooms were very unwelcoming. The courier stated the hotel was basic and this was a good description of the accommodation. Our first room we found very uninviting with wet rust stains in the bath. On complaining stating this was unacceptable, we were moved to a wooden chalet adjacent to the hotel which was better. This however had a wet room (shower with no curtain) and following each shower, the bedroom would smell of damp throughout the rest of the day. There was a small TV in the bedroom but no english stations. There was no tea and coffee making facilities, though this is normal in Italy.
Meals would have been good but plates were not warmed and side dishes invariably arrived cold. Wine was reasonably priced.
During our stay the hotel hosted a party in which the noise went on to the early hours of the morning. Fortunately being in the chalet away from the hotels allowed us to sleep, many other guests however complained. The dining room is often used for "events" when hotel guest then use the outside terrace, this was very pleasant.
The hotel location is remote requiring a minibus (6 euros return) for transport to the to the nearest beach. This runs at specific times. There was no local walks on footpaths adjacent to the hotel.
One problem experienced by many of the tour clients was mosquito bites which is something the hotel is not responsible for but guests should take appropriate measures with them to combat these. The hotel staff did there best to help spraying our bedroom.
The hotel staff were on the whole helpful but some promises often failed to materialise.

“PAGE AND MOY - NEVER AGAIN”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

The first hotel was the worst we have ever stayed in and we cannot believe the company are using it.
Had it not been for the excellent crowd we met on the tour, we would have flown back home.
THE PAGE AND MOY GROUP HAVE BECOME TO BIG AND HAVE LOST INTEREST IN PROVIDING A PREVIOUSLY GOOD SERVICE.
OUR ADVICE IS TO FORGET THIS TOUR !!!

“Better than Expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

Having read some mixed reviews we didn't know what to expect but had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

The hotel is isolated and if you are travelling without a car you are reliant on the owners to ferry you around which they do without any fuss. The nearest place is about a 15-20 minute walk along a goat track but it is worth going to for a meal (and if you need a supermarket).

There is a very large reception area which is comfortable if you need to come in out of the heat. The bar is in the same area so you dont have to go too far!

We had an extremely large triple room with a fair-sized bathroom (plumbing was rather ineffienct but that was our only misgiving). Dont expect to be able to get any English channels on the tv but you dont really go on holiday to watch television. We had the added bonus of a fridge in our room but not all rooms had one. There are two floors and our room was on the second floor - no lift and so if you have mobility problems the stairs may be an issue.

The owners were happy to cater for our vegetarian diets. The food was good and plentiful. Breakfast however was a little on the boring side- again not a big issue.

The owners and all the staff are very welcoming and helpful and there is a very relaxed atmosphere in the hotel.

The swimming pool is large - some of the sunbeds could be replaced though - but often we had sole use of the pool. Pool towels are not provided so do take your own.

There was no evening entertainment at all. So if you need to be entertained this wont be the hotel for you but if you like peace and quiet it will suit.

We would return in the future.

“Comfortable, very friendly, lovely gardens and pool. Very good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

The night before our departure we decided to read reviews of this hotel . We were surprised at some of the poor reviews as we were using Page and Moy, a very reputable tour operator. We decided to keep an open mind although we were a little apprehensive.
We were delighted to find as follows.
We had a largish room with a corresponding bathroom and a more than adequate shower. The bed was comfortable, the furnishings simple, as Page and Moy had stated, and the air conditioning just about coped despite temperatures in excess of 40 degrees C.
On arrival we were given a welcome drink and some very tasty snacks even though we were soon to have dinner. The staff were very friendly and efficient, and remained so throughout our stay. The food was very good, unpretentious and typically Italian.
The public rooms were lovely and spotless. The pool and gardens were excellent.
Our tour party was sufficiently impressed with the stay to have had a collection for the staff to thank them for their friendly and efficient service.
We are totally puzzled by some opinions previously expressed..
