After three weeks of running around Italy and France last June/July, my friend and I wanted to find a nice place with a pool to relax on the Italian Riviera. Villa Edera is what we found and we couldn’t have been happier. Moneglia is close enough to the Cinque Terre to visit, but far enough away from the crazy tourist track. It’s a beach town and tourism thrives, but it’s still a town full of Ligurians.
We arrived to Moneglia by train and walked to Villa Edera. It’s conveniently located about five minutes from the station. Our room was large, spotless, but somewhat Spartan. I was surprised that there wasn’t a fridge in the room. The room itself was not impressive, but the terrace was nice.
The hotel and grounds were beautiful and comfortable. The pool was magnificent! Each morning I would sleep in and arrive for breakfast just before it ended. Then I would hang out at the pool for a few hours. My friend would join me there; she slept even later than I did. After the day at the pool we would often walk into town to shop, have a coffee, or a meal. The ten minute walk to town is charming; I enjoyed it very much. Sometimes we would catch the train to the Cinque Terre. It was nice to see the towns and have dinner someplace different.
Overall I loved the Villa Edera. I did think it was expensive at 140 Euros and was surprised it had three stars. The rooms seemed more like a two star to me; however, the pool was more like a five star. Maybe it all evened out. I would absolutely recommend staying here and I may even return this summer.
