“Super hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

My wife and I stayed at Schloss Muhldorf from 22 to 28 December 2010. Our flight to Munich was late due to cancellations. Arriving at the hotel at 10:00 PM we were warmly welcomed by the hotel manager Johannes Wurmer and his wife. Johannes is also part-owner of the estate. An excellent late supper was provided.
Throughout our stay the staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. The meals and service were very good. There was free internet access on the computer in Reception.
Our room in the main building (originally the stables before conversion) was comfortable, although the lighting could have been better.
We were taken on walks around the estate and golf courses (under snow) by the manager and visited the stables to see the 25 or so horses.
Our tour operator provided excursions to neighbouring towns, including Linz, the third largest in Austria, and to the attractive town of Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic,
During the multi-course evening meals the manager Johannes or his wife, and ocassionally his mother, came around and spoke to everyone.
When we left Johannes shook hands with us all as we boarded the coach, and we felt like part of the family.
Memorable!
J.M.

“Magical; traditional family Christmas.”

Berkshire, England UK. Jan 8th 2010
For the first time ever, four of us decided to spend Christmas abroad. It was difficult making a choice of venue, but we chose a winner in Schloss Muhldorf, near Feldkirchen in Austria. This hotel exceeded our expectations in every respect. This is an exceptionally well run hotel in which all of the family are involved, and what a difference this makes. The food was extremely good but it was the friendliness of the family and staff which made our stay so memorable. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel; it really is a treat !

My wife and I spent Christmas at Schloss Muhldorf. What a wonderful experince we had from the time we arrived to the time we left. The staff, the food and the accommodation were first class and nothing was too much trouble. The staff especially were always ready to help and advise. Relaxing after dinner next to a log fire in a room lit with candles was maginificent. Words cannot express the pleasure we gained from this visit.

“Splendid Isolation which doesn't skimp on comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2009

Just returned from Schloss Mühldorf after a wonderful Christmas Holiday. Family run, this hotel is spread out between self contained villas and a restaurant/reception block in what was once the Castle Stables.

We stayed in the Villa Cristina - smart and well presented, and overlooking a walled lawn area from which, if you're lucky, you can see red and black squirrels scampering along the wall. For those (like me) who just can't be apart from the web, there is both cable and wireless internet - ask at reception for login details and prices.

The best thing about the hotel, however, is the personal touch it offers. You don't feel like a 'hotel guest'. You are made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive - almost as though you are a personal guest of the family. The staff are, without exception, friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in what they're doing, and their English is embarrassingly excellent. Johannes, the owner, is around most of the time and always stops for a chat - and even took us all out on Christmas Morning for a good healthy walk. This was, it has to be said, absolutely necessary, as the food is so delicious and abundant that you would be hard put to leave the Hotel the same bodyweight as when you arrive.

Guests are treated to home made cakes and tea every afternoon at four - included in the price of your stay - as well as sumptuous four course meals of the very best quality. Breakfasts are ample and offer the full range from yoghurt and fruit to a full on ham and eggs (highly recommended!) freshly cooked to order - no hotplates here.

It's a quiet place - no roaring nightlife or shopping - but perfect for a quiet break to get away from it all, enjoy relaxing in the small spa, playing a round of golf on the Hotel's own course or riding one of their impeccable horses. Oh, and absolutely perfect for Christmas, too!

The hotel is very tucked away - about half an hour from Linz - but is worth any effort to get to. It'd mean a lot of scraping of coins, but I'd be happy to go back next Christmas.

“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2009

We booked a fairly last minute set 6 day Christmas break to the hotel via a well known travel operator.
The whole experience was fantastic. We travel a lot but this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Superb atmosphere, super comfy beds, huge room, excellent food and the breakfast buffet was an embarrassment of riches.
Only downside was that we only had a shower in the room (in Villa Cristina) and not a bath as well.
There is a tiny spa and we had it to ourselves but I can imagine it would be rather busy in high season. The massage I had was blissful and good value (1 hr for €60).
Area is remote but we did a lot of walking in good fresh air to try and walk off the 4 course dinners and tea and cakes each day at 4pm!
The hotel is family run and the owner made a point of chatting to us when we saw him. All the staff very good and friendly.
