“5 star privacy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2007

As an extremely fussy family we found the Schloss Muhldorf did not disappoint. We used the hotel as a base for our 10 day Austrian golfing holiday. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very special. This of course is the beauty of staying in a privately owned property rather than a hotel chain.

Our rooms in the Villa Christina were furnished to a very high standard with careful attention to detail. Immaculately clean, ultra modern bathrooms. Lovely little secluded balconies.

We arrived after a 7 hour drive just in time for dinner. We were shown to a beautiful table in the restaurant especially for us. Everything in this restaurant was perfect without being stuffy and overbearing unlike many 5 star hotels we have previously stayed in. We had dinner every night, the food and wine were exquisite, yet uncomplicated. The staff were wonderful and relaxed with typical Austrian efficiency. Breakfast was endless, nothing was too much trouble and again very personal.

If there was any criticism it would only be the fact that the swimming pool is not the conventional kind, more a 'Natural pond' with lichen and wildlife.

The Schloss Muhldorf along with the owners and the staff is truely wonderful. We will definitely return.

“Absolutely Fantastic”

We cannot rate this hotel highly enough. The mix of old and modern is superb. The restaurant and staff were out of this world, being seasoned travellers we both think we have never stayed anywhere better.

The food was outstanding at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Never mind four stars we would give it six.

I had mentioned that it was my huband's birthday whilst we were there when I booked the holiday. In a very charming and sophisticated way, they made that birthday extremely special.

“A 2006 Fairy Tale”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2007

A fairy tale setting in the countryside of Austria. We stayed here enroute from Saltzburg to Vienna. Off the beaten path, this bucolic castle sits almost frozen in time on the outside, but beautifully appointed with new furniture in the rooms. The rooms are in the former stables. The restaurant was quite good and eating outside away from the madding crowds was so romantic. The charming family who own and run the place told us they hardly see 10 Americans a year. We went purely on the recommendation of the previous reviewer and highly concur. Find a reason to enjoy this beautiful secret hideaway.

“Fantastic Castle Hotel near Linz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2006

What a find in Austria. On our recent trip we stayed at this 4 Star Hotel, located about 15km from Linz.
Almost a Boutique hotel in size with it's charming 35 rooms, everything during our stay was perfect. Set in gorgeous surroundings with a very attractive swimming pond (as clean as a pool), we instantly felt relaxed and wanted to stay longer than our booked nights. The rooms are well layed out and have all amenities one expects from a modern day place, but with a centuries old feeling to the room with creaking floors and old windows.

Breakfast is served in a almost gothic chapel style room, the buffet has a great selection of traditional Austrian breakfast goodies as well as some funky choices like organic apple and carrot juice, supplied by a local farmer.
Right next door is the fantastic restaurant which serves set four course dinners and also offers a great menu. We took advantage of a huge firecplace within that restaurant where we enjoyed our desserts each night and after dinner drinks. Truly a great ambiance. Service was outstanding, but where else if not in Austria....that's what they do best.

A very short ride of 15 minutes got us right into the centre of Linz, great shopping and overall a cool place to visit between a trip from Salzburg to Vienna.
