By far the worst place I've stayed ever (I once spent a night on a park bench in old Yugoslavia, and that was slightly worse). We arrive, - they can't seem to manage that we are 12 people, because they constantly ask me; twelve, really! But ok, they send us off to our rooms...The bell boys are then waiting at the other end to grab our luggage for the last 2-3 meters and expect a tip -
Yeah, right, after we carry it through the dark and the uneven paths, then we are to be grateful for some guy rolling it on an even floor for 2 seconds?
So we try to settle in, but one of the rooms had an amount of mildew that actually set off the asthma of us. When I went to the reception to change it, after I had explained the "small" problem, I was asked if I really wanted to change room. Still, I held my tounge and was rather civil about it.
Then I asked for transportation to the Lomprayah pier for the boat we were taking the next day. (I had sent them an e-mail asking about this before, but got the reply that this should be settled when we arrived - I soon learned why) -
"Transportation? No problem! 300 baht per person." - I know this may sound cheap, but I was somewhat taken aback, and asked again; "300 baht per person?" And yes, I got it right the first time. And that is probably an Ok, if a bit stiff price for a taxi ride of 40 minutes if you are 1 person...We were 12. We had just arrived by fancy limo ride from Cha-am (5 hours) which cost us less... Imagine me not being happy about the suggested price. But, no, no, fixed price, but he promised to call and try to fix other price. We gave more or less up the whole place, went out for dinner (which actually turned out to be fantastic - great place that had absolutely nothing to do with Chumphon Cabana. So I will not mention their name in a negative review).
After dinner, no can fix cheaper price. I am getting less surprised by the minute.
After my family has gone to bed, I feel I can actually work myself up to some degree of anger, so I go back to the reception and asks them to order 6 taxies from Chumphon central city. All of a sudden they had fixed it! I would get TukTuk. Only 1500 baht.
(And this reduction/possibilty suddenly leapt into his mind when I asked for taxies from other places? Wow, imagine that)
So, thw next morning we are finally leaving. But we have time to go for a swim in the sea. (since the swimming pool was closed for renovation, my room had a balcony towards the pool, the only renovation guy I saw was swimming in the pool.)
So, we go to the ecological beach, without sunbeds, umbrellas etc. Yeah, right!
Someone needs to tell them that ecological doesn't mean you do not touch anything!
It is a lovely beach - or rather could be if someone actually picked up and moved away all the shait floating in on the beach.
I will not comment on the ride to the pier - not his fault that his TukTuk suddenly were supposed to take 12 people.
The last straw, when I finally got angry, was when the people at this hotel had the nerve to nag us about the minibar - not just once, but thrice. The last time I told the receptionist; "ok, now I have paid you twice, how much money you want? I just want to go now?" And all is well? Oh, no, because they called the Tuktuk about a water bottle and a coke we only had paid for once.
I think what sums up our experience the best is that we forfeit 500 us dollars just not to go back. we ordered a different hotel on the tour back again - and the 500 dollars Cabana kept because "they think we should have been there" is some of the best spent money I have ever done!
