Eigentlich wollten wir lediglich 2 Sterne vergeben, der dritte ist für die Aussicht von den Terrassen auf die Berge, diese ist wirklich phänomenal.
Die Zimmer unterteilen sich in einen "neuen" Bereich, und einen "alten" Bereich.
Wir haben jeweils eine Nacht in beiden Bereichen verbracht.
Beide Bereiche sind sehr einfach gehalten, es gibt ein Bad im Zimmer, heißes Wasser muß jedoch erst angefordert werden. Moskito-Netze sind vorhanden, speziell im "alten" Bereich jedoch sehr schmutzig und mit Löchern versehen. Die Zimmer im "alten" Bereich sind leicht schimmelig, bei Regen läuft das Wasser die Wände herunter.
Das Essen im Restaurant ist eher mittelmäßig, nebenan im "Panorama" kann man besser essen, sollte sich jedoch vorher anmelden.
Alkohol ist nicht erlaubt, darf jedoch, falls selbst mitgebracht, auf der zimmereigenen Terrasse getrunken werden.
Das Frühstück wiederum war das beste, dass wir in ganz Sri Lanka bekommen haben.
Bei einem erneuten Besuch von Ella würden wir wohl nicht noch einmal im Ambiente übernachten.

I think, whoever visits the mountainous area of Sri Lanka must stay in this guest house. The view (from the rooms or the restaurant) is breathtaking.

The new rooms are basic but clean enough. The old rooms are in a poor condition; it was acceptable for us for one night. Service is very polite. They provide the standard breakfast given to all tourists but I must say, it was the best one (with best bread) we had in Sri Lanka.

New rooms were about 30 EUR with breakfast - old rooms were a few EUR's less. They also provide dinner; curry & rice was OK, not expensice. They DO NOT serve alcoholic beverages, but they are OK to keep the beer in their fridge, if you bring it with you (our tour-guide organized a delivery service from Ella town).

The town Ella is just 10 minutes walk down the hill, but it is really a small place; we did enjoy an Ayurveda massage though one afternoon.

All in all, I can only recommend this place to the others.

Arrived at the hotel late at night and were shown straight to our room. Typical Sri Lankan quality with flimsy door but room was clean and airy but very basic. A bed, wardrobe, dresser and that was it plus shower room.

No TV etc which was not an issue. However, the view of the Ella Gap over our private balcony as the sun rose in the morning was awesome and something not to be missed.

Worth a stay for the view alone but probably much else to recommend it. Breakfast and dinner were average but fresh.

The owner speaks very good English indeed. In fact he is well educated, erudite and quite knowledgeable about Europe, where he has traveled extensively, as his foto albums indicate. However, there are two owners, brothers, and they alternate.
Not impressed by the rooms, which are particularly grim when contrasted with the location.
Service was slow, it took 30 minutes for morning tea to be served on the Dining Room terrace.
Lunch was expensive and the owner, who was also lunching, was not interested in engaging with his only customer. This was in marked contrast with his earlier attitude to two lady guests whom he tried to chat up over morning tea, having seated himself at their table. My extensive knowledge is based on overhearing their rather intimate conversation.
I would love to spend some time here, but not until they have improved their act dramatically.
