Arrived at the hotel late at night and were shown straight to our room. Typical Sri Lankan quality with flimsy door but room was clean and airy but very basic. A bed, wardrobe, dresser and that was it plus shower room.

No TV etc which was not an issue. However, the view of the Ella Gap over our private balcony as the sun rose in the morning was awesome and something not to be missed.

Worth a stay for the view alone but probably much else to recommend it. Breakfast and dinner were average but fresh.

The owner speaks very good English indeed. In fact he is well educated, erudite and quite knowledgeable about Europe, where he has traveled extensively, as his foto albums indicate. However, there are two owners, brothers, and they alternate.
Not impressed by the rooms, which are particularly grim when contrasted with the location.
Service was slow, it took 30 minutes for morning tea to be served on the Dining Room terrace.
Lunch was expensive and the owner, who was also lunching, was not interested in engaging with his only customer. This was in marked contrast with his earlier attitude to two lady guests whom he tried to chat up over morning tea, having seated himself at their table. My extensive knowledge is based on overhearing their rather intimate conversation.
I would love to spend some time here, but not until they have improved their act dramatically.

The guesthouse is very nice, clean and very peaceful. The view is amazing, the price is very affordable for having such a stunning view. I recommend this place and also to hike Ella Rock, the view from there is incredible!

Contrary to many revisions, this guesthouse turned to be a very clean and well maintained place with amazing view. In the morning, when we woke up and saw the Ella Gap, it felt like being gods of the world... There is nice garden, small plants everywhere, and good care for the driver.
Staff service and owner's hospitality though shall be open for improvement. The owner did not show up much, neither was there for the small talk - although do you really need it for your vacation? However, the long waiting times for food being prepared are really annoying. And on top of that, lunch and dinner for two persons turned out to be really expensive and added quite a significant amount on top of the bill. You would make much better deal going down 1 km to Ella and visiting one of the restaurants - where they have really great curry.
Another complain points are the tea dishes that got left "forgotten" in our room (we asked for tea in the morning, but nobody came again to pick up dishes) and hot water that gets turned off during the night.
Overall, Ambiente is nice place to stay while taking into account slow service and high food prices.
