We stayed at Amaan Beach Bungalows at the end of August. We had initially reserved a deluxe garden room but upgraded to anocean view room. The rooms not on the ocean are not worth the price- just a standard hotel room overlooking a patch of grass. It was $150 for the ocean view room and $120 for the deluxe garden room. Definitely worth the $150 as the balcony was literally over the water at high tide! Some reviews talked about poor service- this is not the case! They were super helpful, especially at check-in when we decided to change rooms. Other reviews talked about the bad breakfast. This has changed, too! Rates include breakfast (you could pay more for all-inclusive, which I would NOT do because there are so many restaurants nearby to try!) and it includes made-to-order eggs or pancakes, fresh fruit, coffee/tea, cereal. No complaints there! By the way, we were there during Ramadan and it's true that the local restaurants in town are closed during the day, but all the tourist places on the beach are still open. We really didn't notice it.
As for Nungwi Beach itself, it was a great place to stay! Amaan Bungalows is in the middle of the tourist strip of hotels/resorts, but it was quiet. We never had trouble with noise. The party bar is at the other end of the beach. If you want to just lay by the pool all day, you may want to pay more for a resort with a pool or on a secluded beach, but if you're like us and like to walk the beach, try a different restaurant for every meal, shop, SCUBA dive, then Nungwi is perfect. We're 30 years old and found people there of all ages.
