I'm in the travel industry, and I rarely write reviews as a result, but I feel compelled to comment on what a wonderful stay we had at Riverrun Lodge in Wanaka. The property is at the end of a gravel road, on a hillside adjacent to a working sheep farm, in one of the most gorgeous and pristine locations in a country that is filled with them - the view from our room was breathtaking. Riverrun itself is a wonderful combination of homey comfort and understated luxury. Meg, our host, hits every detail with the right note, from the appointments in the bathroom and the terrific volumes of short stories in our room, to the fantastic cedar hot tub on a small promontory at the edge of the property. We stayed in for dinner, and it was easily one of the best meals we've had in New Zealand. Breakfast the following morning was also top notch (I don't think I've ever raved about toast before, but even that was a "best ever"). Riverrun is simply how it should be done - a truly comfortable place to stay with understated elegance, where the guest is the priority. I hope we are fortunate enough to return someday.
