“Staff are fantastic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

The staff at this resort made my stay a very pleasant one, they were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our room was clean and what I would expect from a 3 star resort. The grounds and pool are lovely unfortunately we were there when it was constantly raining so the pool bar wasn't always open. The breakfast was good except for the instant coffee. The other meals that I ate there were tasty but extremley overpriced. The drinks are also extremely overpriced. There was no beach to speak of and the water around the island was brown which I suspect was because of the bad weather. We left the resort most days and explored around Fiji either by car or tour and even by the local bus. I would think that if you were to stay at the resort the whole time it would be a little boring and very expensive. The resort is quite isolated and you need to pay $20FJ to get into town by the cars and for this reason I probably wouldn't stay at Sonaisali again otherwise our stay was very pleasant.

Bula Sandy,

Thank you for your comments and the praise for our fantastic staff. As I mentioned before, the weather did not show it's brightest side and probably didn't encourage you to spend time lying around the pool or on the beach. Believe me, there are plenty of things to do in nicer weather. You wouldn't get bored. Jet-ski, Island hopping on our catamaran, skorkelin, diving, horse riding, a romantic sunset cruise... the list goes on and on. I will pass your nice comment about the food onto our chefs. We are comparing our pricing for both meals and drinks regularly with the other resorts in Fiji and find that we are very competitive and actually cheap compared to Australian prices.

“Bad weather; Superb holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We went to relax and read, enjoy the ambiance of a relaxing resort, be looked after superbly for a week, learn a little about Fijian culture and come home feeling glad we had decided to investmoney in an island holiday. Two of our eight days were dry, and we had storms when the palm fronds were horizontal and it was raining hard. I swam in the pool after dark in those conditions and it was exhillerating!
We were looked after superbly by every staff member, the breakfast and food we ate through the day was excellent, and the programme of entertainment was most enjoyable. This is not an island with a lagoon and white sand; it has volcanic-coloured sand because the main island is volcanic. We knew that and chose the location because, had the weather been better we intended to sight-see more on the mainland. We had a lovely spacious room, which was very well cleaned. I could not single out specific staff because they were all so helpful. We travelled just after the floods and were hugely impressed by the ground staff and boat skipper, who were very quick to come up with excellent solutions to every challenge the weather produced. I would certainly return; a week after we arrived home we are still reaping the benefit of an outstanding and memorable week.

Thank you Carole!
Sonaisali is a great resort even in the worst weather... is that what you are saying? You are right.
You and some of the other reviewers got hit with the worst weather this summer and I understand that it is sometimes not easy to keep the good spirit up but you made most definitely the most of your stay with us. I believe it is meanwhile common knowledge that most of the mainland beaches are coloured by the volcanic soil and appear brownish. I am sorry for you that you missed out on the mainland excursions but that could be a reason to come back to tick those off your list.

“Bad weather boring stay.”

We booked this trip a month prior and were so excited as Fiji had been on our bucket list. When we got to the resort it was morning and I wasn't expecting to be able to get our room yet. They gave us juice when we arrived. The staff tried to charge me twice as they ddint believe the voucher that we paid in advance. They also told us that we could not eat breakfast as we hadn't paid for it. It didn't give us the option to. We went and laid around and about an hour later they had a room ready early. We got to the room and it was spacious but we couldn't work the air conditioner which we never had to use. We did have some bugs but that is expected in a tropical environment. The sheets were dirty and stained and so were the towels including the beach towels. The breakfast buffet each morning was nice and always edible. We lunched off the bar menu and found the fish and chips our best option. We had dinner at the resort the whole time and found it to get repetitive and I felt like we were eating day old food. Like mixing in the fish from the night before in the pasta. The drinks were very overpriced. We had horrible weather. Loud wind and rain. There was so much standing water that I got eaten by Mosquitos. One night at dinner they were so bad that we left. We were never given the option to leave the "island" to try other things out as the staff made it sound unsafe. Come to find out that people left anyway. Considering the resort was very empty we figured a bit better of a time. Also they always kept pushing the buffet which was ridiculously priced and the food was the same as the menu items. The pool was big but could use a bit of a cleaning. Also, the resort needs to enforce small children not wearing diapers in there. We were overall not satisfied due to the weather and most of the food. We also will never go back if Air Pacific is the only airline. Our ending experience with them left us feeling completely underwhelmed and wishing we had just gone to Hawaii or Mexico.

Hi Ambekirt,
thank you for your review. I remember your arrival day well as my Customer Care Manager informed about the mishap with your breakfast which was clarified immediately. We really tried to make up for it by making your room available as soon as we could. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed our tropical breakfast buffet and it is certainly not true that our chefs are reusing cooked food from the day before. They are very aware of the tropical environment. The rain season bring unpredictable weather and I have to agree that stay fell into the worst time so far this year. We try to control the mosquitoes as best as we can but under those circumstances could not completely eliminate them. We are offering regular trips into Nadi and to other areas like the Orchid Gardens or Natadola Beach with it's pristine white sand. A lot of our guests are also choosing to visit other areas in and around Nadi and maybe have a lunch or dinner to have a bit of a change during their stay with us.We are actually encouraging this. I hope that your stay has after all left some positive memories.
Vinaka vakalevu.

“Nice, but remote”

The resort was nice, as was the staff. The pool was really beautiful with a swim up bar, but the beach was virtually nonexistent. You had to walk down to either end of the resort to get to the beach which was full of wooden debris and trash. The food was good and we chose the all-inclusive package. What we didn't know, was it that it included everything but beverages! I could understand not including alcoholic beverages, but soft drinks?!? Every time we ate, we were charged about $FJ5 for a drink. (We were told by one of the staff to be careful about drinking the water). Not being close to anything got to be a pain also. You have to take a boat from the island to the taxi, then a taxi to town. We ended up going to another resort not far away so that we could experience a REAL Fiji beach. (clear blue water, white sand, nice!)

Thank you for your review. It is nice to hear that you liked our staff, the pool and its bar. Unfortunately you could not enjoy our beach, the rainy season with flooded river and the strong winds had washed a lot of debris onto it. I believe that the resort has a special character by being on an island that is not as far away from the mainland as others are. This gives you the opportunity of enjoying both, island life and mainland excursions. I apologize for the confusion with your package, it should have been explained that it is a meal package that allows you to dine in all our restaurant but does not include drinks. Vinaka vakalevu.

“a tropical experience”

Hot and sunny, fabulous jet ski experience. Water so blue. Snorkling amazing! Property has lush gardens, places to hide and relax. Walks. Our picnic was just wonderful. If you are lucky, you'll see a mongoose, and the geckoes are a bit scarey until you remember the jungle is close and they eat insects. I liked the daily newspaper so no excuse to miss any of the events or trips. Which of course you expect are going to cost more than sitting by the pool. The food was always hot and tasty - the best was the Indian banquet. I'd have like more cold, salad things generally available.

All the staff were happy and smiling, and kind and helpful to us, but not pushy. Especially the Fijians. Fiji time takes some getting used to at first. The kids loved it, everything really, and the girls loved having their hair braided and beaded and they were well looked after by the child carers, which left us free to have our holiday and spend time with them too. The kids betting on frog races - hope that doesn't make them into problem gamblers! I was talked into having a spa. I was unsure, but now cant wait for my next visit. Rooms and service all fine, no complaints at all. Anything extra we needed was supplied without a problem

Room Tip: If you sleep perfectly to the sound of waves hitting the rocks, pick a beach bure. Cute little spa...

Vinaka vakalevu, thank you very much for your really nice comments. We are very proud of our staff and we hear it all the time, they are the souls of Sonaisali. We hope we can welcome you again here in the near future. Coincidentally I am writing this while our Indian buffet is being served in the Sunset Restaurant...
