“Awesome time!”

I stayed at El Conquistador for a wedding in January. The grounds were gorgeous. Especially the private beach and pool areas. The restaurants were delicious but none authentically Puerto Rican, which was disappointing. But, the pizza place/restaurant by the pool had great, big salads. The only negatives worth mentioning are: 1) they really nickel and dime you for everything. Between the taxes, resort fees and gratuities the room charge got 30% higher; and 2) the drinks were WEAK and expensive. They measured what seemed to be watered down alcohol for each pour. Stick with beer, wine or straight liquor if you want to get any type of buzz and have any money to spend at the casino.

“A nickle and dime you to poverty establishment.”

Charge to park even as a guest. Charge for towels. Waterpark extra charge. The worst of all was the shops inside the Hotel. Tropical Footprints was the absolute worst. After buying two pairs of nice pricey sandals, I bought my wife some thing. The lady who checked me out said if she didn't like them just bring them back - No Problem. Guess what there was a huge problem. She didn't like the Items, and Tropical Footprints, with the direction of the owner over the phone would absolutely not refund my money. After a huge annoying debate over return they would only allow an exchange. We were forced to find new items we did not want in a huge rush and almost missed our plane dealing with these people. I would not recommend shopping here. A no refund policy is a terrible customer relations policy. This owner Sue Gribble has no interest in making anyone happy, she just wants your money. She is a horrible reflection on the El Conquistador Resort.

The views are incredible. The staff amazing. And there is a great local village down the shore to walk for some authentic mofongo.

A beautiful hotel, but if you are looking for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, you need to go off the premises to local restaurants in the area. Ask the local cab drivers, and they will give great places to go.

“A fabulous winter get-away.”

Contrary to some of the reviews I've read, we did not find too many negatives about this very large resort. We stayed at one of the units in the lower marina area. It was very well maintained and always spotless. We stayed 10 days and the only problem we had was they forgot to leave the coffee packets. We called and within minutes brought us a bag full to compensate.

We were there for a conference and stayed an additional week for a mini vacation. The confernce facilities and rooms were excellent and everything went off without a hitch
I will state that the restaurants are expensive and, since it is such a large property and somewhat remote, unless one has a car, you're not able to go into town to seek other alternatives. However when we did eat there it was excellent.

Regards to one of the comments about parking; we rented a car from Enterprise. You can park in their lot for free which is also much closer to the hotel.

We did not notice the fact they needed a lot of repairs or upkeep other than what can be expected in such a large operation. We noticed people working around the grounds and building quite a bit so perhaps previous comments in reviews have been taken to heart.

Reading the history of the resort and when it started and how it has evolved, I believe it will continue to be a place worth visiting. We'd come again.

Room Tip: We loved the rooms in the Marina unit. Just keep in mind that, in order to get to the main complex y...
