“Wish this was my 2nd Home....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

4th Visit ...as a Post Christmas treat booked Exc Suite... Beautiful room and all those little extras make a weekend away " Special " Bathroom was divine... had 2 hot leisurely soaks in one weekend ! Loved the flapjack and bottled water/ towelling robes... Dined in the pub both nights as we adore the Menu. My only criticism is it is a bit of a wait for food but that is because it is so popular and busy, which is a sign of good quality meals.I We found the wine reasonably priced for a bottle so didn't mind relaxing while we waited. You can get some really good deal on the Room Rates so that makes the whole experience amazing. I will be returning and returning.....

“ideal stopping point for lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

If heading for the Yorkshire Dales this is the ideal place for lunch. Even when as usual the car parks are packed there is still plenty of room inside and the service is still prompt. The menu has something for everyone, even those who remember the war. There are several good pubs in the area but the Tempest stands out as the best.

“short break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This a really impressive small hotel and country Inn with excellent food and superb accomodation. The staff could not be more attentive and the general attention to detail is excellent. The rooms vary from very nice rooms to executive suites.

Room Tip: not saying dont want you to take the best rooms

“Another lovely anniversary at the Tempest Arms...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We visited the Tempest Arms on the 10th December for our anniversary - we also went in 2010 but didn't stay over as our baby was very young at the time.

We love the Tempest for eating out either at lunch for a sandwich or the famous ploughmans board.....or in the evening for fab dining in the restaurant or cosy eating in the bar.....either way the food is fab.
We checked in and were staying in room 19 - lovely 4 poster style bed - cosey fire with 2 leather chairs in front - gorgeous decked area - a really lovely room.

Once we had dumped our bags we made it into the bar for a few beers - mulled wine and cider were also on offer :) After one too many we refersed ready for our meal.
The bar was packed - through December they have party nights which looked very good fun so the bar was heaving.
Once at our table we had a bottle of house white which was lovely and one or 2 different drinks. The meal was delicious -
Starters - Veg soup - YUM - Game Soup - husband said this was amazing.
Main - Belly Pork - absolutelt delicous - lamb - Hubby said melt in th mouth
Pud - jam sponge - devine

Of course after all that we retired to our room (in order to undo the top button)!!!!!

Next morning breakfast was served and what a lovely breakfast - selection of cereals - fruit - yoghurts - then a menu with cooked options too. Just to good the diet goes out the window!!

Would highly reccomend the Tempest to anyone passing for lunch or a stayover for that extra treat.

Room Tip: Check the website first - hot tubs get booked up v.quickly!!!

“unwelcoming”

Having passed this pub several times we decided to call in recently. Our first point of contact was at the bar .We were told as we were being served by disinterested bar staff to " grab a menu".As these weren't immeadiatley apparent that wasnt easy and added to the general unwelcoming impression .To be positive the pub is large, and we easily found a seat in the bar area. The food was good but then no better than that from other pubs round about like The Bull .After eating we went to look at the dining room with view to perhaps giving it another try.We were stridently addressed by a young member of staff who called after us acouple of times in a loud voice to ask " if we were alright" almost as if we were tresspassing in the room .I had time to note that out of most of the pub windows the view is largely off cars.We couldn't see what would have caused the pub to be voted pub of the year 2011 and wont be calling again.

Oh dear!
It does disappoint me so when a reviewer says that they will never call again! Perhaps the saying is right 'you only get one chance to impress!

I have to say I am sorry about the apparent unwelcome, I am sure it was not intentional. I will of course be taking up all pointers raised in your review with my team.

We have for many years tried hard to create a warm and friendly environment serving great food and drinks to a appreciative crowd, this I want to continue, so thank you for bringing it to my attention. Your observations we will use it as a building block for the future.

The restaurant is facing the car park and when we are busy it is full of cars, so the view only changes when one comes and another goes. But with this in mind our guests do enjoy sitting in this area as it is lighter, couple this with good food, service and ambiance and this area always fills first.

We very proud to have been the GOOD PUB GUIDES PUB OF THE YEAR 2011 You have to remember that this award is a great achievement and it is about the only award presented purely by customers visiting an establishment and letting the Good Pub Guide know about their experience. This is then monitored by the excellent team at the GPG.

We do have many many loyal customers who visit us week upon week and we would love for you to be one of them! Please do try us again next time you are passing introduce yourselves to me as I would love for you to receive what we have taken years building - a good friendly Inn with great food.

I will write to you personally in the hope that we can tempt you back!

Best wishes Veronica
