Carelshaven used to be an inn at a short quay on a canal now filled. It has a nice terrace and a big garden and long walks may be made in the immediate neighbourhood. The public rooms are quiet, comfortable and unassuming though, like the rooms, they may well do with some paint and in general a less tired look. Over the public rooms and in a separate wing there are spacious comfortable bedrooms with terrace or balcony. Service is friendly. Restaurant is all right and would be more appealing with a little bit more effort by the cuisiniers! At this moment, it is a bit dated. Carelshaven is ideally located to visit the castles, mansions, towns and sights in the east of the Netherlands that so few foreigners visit, and come home to a whisky at the fireplace and a good meal!
