“Solid performance”

Last time we stayed in this hotel we had a room facing the canal. At 4 in the morning a large number of boats came along. I can say that these boats were very noisy. So this time we had asked for a room at the innerside. Although the view was average it was clearly quiet in the morning.
The rooms are good and the service is ok. So the price/performance is sufficient. A disappointing aspect is the diner at night. Although the food is average/good I don't like the use of two shifts. As the number of guests was small I did expect that everyone could go for dinner at the time you like.
One point for improvement: The bed is very hard and the pillow small.

Room Tip: Rooms at the canal side are very noisy

“Excellent!!”

We stayed here at the beginning of June and had a wonderful holiday. As soon as we arrived in reception we were handed a glass of 'champagne' while we were checked in. A porter promptly took care of our luggage and our cases arrived in the rooms before we did.
I had booked a single room and was a little worried before I arrived, as the single rooms I have stayed in previously have been rather small (just about room for a single bed.) To my great surprise, when I opened the door to my room, I was greeted with a very spacious room, complete with double bed and large balcony with a sea view!!
The food at the Riu Atlantico was brilliant. I consider myself to be quite a fussy eater, but I didn't eat the same thing twice as there was such a range of food. Dinner was served in two sittings (we chose 8.30pm as we felt 6:30pm was too early for us) and was buffet style. A minimum of 2 types of fish and 2 or 3 meat dishes were available along with pasta, rice and potatoes and vegetables. There was a pizza 'kitchen' every evening in addition to the chef's special cooked in front of the guests.
The area around the hotel consisted of other hotels and private apartments. There were a couple of bars but that was about all. We knew this in advance and it was just perfect for us as we wanted a relaxing break where all we had to do was sunbathe!
We hadn't been away on holiday for 3 years and feel that we made the perfect choice by staying at the Riu Atlantico. A perfect hotel in a great (but very quiet) location, we would hesitate to come again.

“Very good, but sizable hotel”

We stayed her during the last week of october. The weather was changeable. Wind, rain but also sun. The hotel is good, the pool lovely and the beach nearby. Isla Canela is very quiet.
This hotel can have a lot of guests and the only thing we did not like were the queues at mealtime.

“Great hotel - location may not suit everyone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Great standard of customer service, rooms and food as you would expect from a RIU hotel. Hotel is in a purpose built resort with a few bars and shops locally and not much nightlife. If you haven't got a car you are a bit out on a limb, however the hotel does run a bus to Ayamonte. The beach is great, a big wide expanse of sand, easy to find a few square metres to yourself. When we we there the sea had large waves which were fun to play in.
The kids club was fantastic (I think it only runs in peak season), our daughter (9 year old) was in and out of there all the time.
As others have said you are unlikely to need a seaview room as all the rooms seem to either overlook the sea or as ours did the estuary at the side of the hotel.
If you do your reseach and you know what to expect from the location then you will have a great time here.

Room Tip: You are unlikely to need to pay for a seaview room as all the rooms seem to either overlook the sea...

“"Phew" boy was it hot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Stayed at the Atlantico second week in October with another couple and boy was it hot, I like it warm but didn't think it would be much over 20-23 degrees, was I wrong 28-32 most of the time, hotter in Seville when we went on a trip for the day, a day is not long enough and would love to go back. The reception staff at the Atlantico were excellent, we were not happy with our rooms on arrival but it was no trouble for them to change both our rooms which had a side sea views, watching the fishing boats go out each morning was nice and we didn't find them noisy as others have said. Maids very good, bar staff and restaurant staff were what you expect from a Riu hotel. Food was a good standard and varied. Not too much to do in Isla Canela but we always had a pleasant walk around the marina in the evening which is all we needed at the end of our meal, we also went in to watch the entertainment which was ok most nights, the best night was the flamenco dancers they were excellent. There was plenty of space on the beach, and it was still warm in the sea, in fact warmer than the hotel pool. Ayamonte is a nice place to visit, get the bus from outside the hotel which is very cheap or a taxi which was nine euros (thats not bad between four of you) We also got the Ferry over to Vila Real de Santo Antonio, unfortunatly it was a spanish/portugese public holiday so its was heaving, every street had market stalls and all along to quay, the columbus trip was worth going on which took us to the monestry and also the replicas of columbus's ships. Take the water taxi from the marina over to Isla Christina, nice little town!

Room Tip: Ask for high floor side sea view, we had rooms 4023 and 4029
