“Beautiful house; 5 Star luxury for 3 star price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

I've stayed in a lot of B&Bs around Ireland, but it is rare where you come across one where the owners have taken such pride in the restoration & maintenance of their house. The amazing thing is that despite furnishing the house with the fixtures, fittings and accessories that normally come with a boutique hotel, the owners are still only charging 3 star prices! Maybe this is just a "Laois" thing - but as a Wicklow man, I have to say, I came away with a real sense of "bargain"!

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room lookin out over the river

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

We went to the restaurant here for our wedding anniversary, having heard great reviews about it (we live nearby). On arrival we found a beautifully and tastefully restored house with welcoming open fires and friendly staff. The waitresses managed to be both efficient and take the time to chat and welcome us despite being extremely busy. We were invited into a sitting room and offered drinks and a look at the menu while we waited for our table (we were early and as I already said they were very busy), it was lovely and relaxing - just what we wanted for our anniversary. The food was excellent - scallops cooked to perfection! My husband had lamb for his main and it was, in his opinion, the best he has ever tasted!
We have friends staying with us next month and are already anticipating treating them (and ourselves) to Sunday lunch here! :)
Thanks Rosita and family for a wonderful evening!

“Faultless”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

I was in Durrow to attend a wedding at the Castle and this was the perfect place to stay. I checked out the reviews here first and was impressed by all the raves, and I can now say how deserved they are. On all points; cleanliness, friendliness, value for money, even the quality of the coffee, this place is a gem.

“Lovely guesthouse, a great base for exploring the Midlands”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

I stayed in the Ashbrook Arms while attending a wedding at Castle Durrow nearby. It's a lovely old building, which has been nicely renovated, and is right in the centre of Durrow, County Laois. The Aircoach service from Dublin to Cork stops almost outside the front door. It is literally 2 minutes from the Castle, and 10 minutes from Abbeyleix. I was greeted by name on arrival by Rosita the manageress, who showed me to my room - a lovely double room with a large sleigh bed, flatscreen TV, high ceiling, bottled water and a spotlessly clean en-suite bathroom. After a night celebrating I enjoyed a great sleep in the comfy bed, and then the following morning an absolutely delicious full Irish breakfast with complimentary newspaper. They really make every effort to make staying in this guesthouse a cut above the usual experience, I was so pleased and would highly recommend the Ashbrook Arms.

“5 star guesthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

Stayed in this guesthouse to attend a wedding in Castle Durrow. It's perfect! Location is literally 5 mins walk to the castle front door, breakfast was excellent, all freshly cooked, big bedrooms & bathrooms perfectly fitted out with lovely comfortable big sleigh beds, crisp white linens & lovely fluffy white towels (not often found in hotels!!). Would absolutely recommend this guesthouse.
