“Great Family run Campsite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

We visited Les Peneryals through Canvas Holidays. Easy to find and reception staff very friendly and providing copious amounts of information of the campsite and local area. Canvas directed us to our mobile home, via the narrow lanes. Campsite situated on several slopes.
Swimming pools were varied from toddler pool, swimming style, indoor, and one with slides. Most ages catered for - could do with slides for 5 - 9 years olds. Cracked and loose paviers (due to winter cold weather and owners intend to repair this year) Edges of the pool are rough, and therefore you have to be careful when getting in and out. Pools open a very good length of time - until 9pm high seasons.
Bar and resturant were well staffed and very friendly. Excellent food and good prices at the bar.
Crazy golf was a little bit tough to do, although the themeing of it was excellant.
Shop was rather poor to be honest but did have the essentials (Bread & milk) throughout the day.
Campsite offered a small discount on the canoeing, when they booked it for you. Well worth while activity - suitable for all ages as easy part of the river to canoe.
Very good entertainment - two excellent bands particarly TTC!
Childrens club was well run and had plenty to do in different languages. Usually held twice a day.
The toilets were insufficent around resturant and mixed sexes - rather strange! BUT were clean.....
Plenty of sports on offer: fishing, ping pong, tennis, platonk, badmington, keep fit, aqua areobics all well run.
The childrens playgound was super and catered for all ages, even teenages!
Would we go again? Well yes..... but only in a few years, too many other parts of the world to visit!

“why does no-one mention the dogs!”

Lovely campsite, great pitches in a beautiful setting BUT the dogs on neighbouring farms are a pain. There are 2 farms that back onto this site, on one side there are 12 dogs that bark early morning and on the other side which was right behind our mobile home are the howlers which started on our first morning at 4,30am! and went on every 10 minutes. it did get better nut not much. Would love to go back but not until the dogs are gone.

“Second year running”

Our second year at Les Peneyrals. Stayed with Eurocamp. Reps helpful but mobile very basic.Mobile not as as good as Canvas ones but didn't really matter. Canvas reps very helpful too, A really pretty, well run site with good facilities. Camp owners and staff fun, friendly and always helpful.Shower blocks ALWAYS immaculate. Pools great, slides fun, plenty of loungers{we were late in season though} and always clean-no food drink and therefore no wasps and flies allowed round pool. Pool open to late and NO officious body guards. Fun allowed as long as you didn't get VERY boisterous {this was very different to other campsites we have visted}Food varied from night to night at site {dependant on chef] but always good. Pizzas great and great value. Our four teenagers in the group didn't want to leave the site. So many activities to do and friends to make. They all found groups of other teenagers to meet and socialise with which again we have never experienced at larger sites. Which left the adults free to explore the area without bored moaning. Recommend La Vielle Auberge and La Borie in St Genies to eat. Found a great taxi service in Salignac only 20 euros each way to St Genies. canoeing at St Eyzies great fun, caves at Proumeysac magical-especially going down in the gondola,Domme beautiful, Lascaux caves a must, gardens at Erigynac beautiful, Rocadamour well worth the drive, Sarlat market on Saturday lots to see and do. Go to St genies market on Sunday and try and buy the cheese and liquers.
Our friends who joined us this year totally in agreement at how good this site is. Would visit again and again. A small site with big facilities and a HUGE welcome.

we have stayed here for the last 4 years, it is a fantastic campsite. The owners are very welcoming and friendly, maintaining everywhere to a very high standard.
The restaurant serves great food day and night, the takeaways are also lovely.
The shop has good priced basics.
The kids clubs and activities are great.
There are bikes to hire, a playground and boulles pitch.
The indoor and outdoor pools are fantastic, geat water slides.
Nearby there are loads of things to see and do.
We can't wait to go back again.

“Fantastic service, good facilities and comfortable accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2007

We stayed at the Peneyrals campsite in the summer of 2006, in a bungalow for 4 to 6 persons. (We're a family of four, kids aged 9 and 12 at the time of the stay)

The welcome they gave us says it all - The first thing is you're led in to the restaurant/bar-area where they give you a free drink while you wait for them to get everything ready. For the travellers we are this was very welcome, and we immediately felt at home.

After that we were escorted to our bungalow, which was nice, clean and tidy, with enough room for the four of us. (one bedroom with a double bed, one smaller bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with shower and WC, and the main room with tv, sofa, dining table and a small kitchen)

The campsite has lots of facilities for families, like playground, game-room, large pool-area with slides and many different pools for all age groups. They also have a covered indoor pool for when the weather's not playing nice.

We were there during the football world cup, and of course all the important games are shown on large screens in the bar area.

The restaurant is nice and cozy - serving international and local dishes, and the bar is very good too. A fast-food/take-away option is also available, and a mini-market for those preferring to prepare their own food.

The staff is nice and friendly, and they speak english. When we left, they gave us a bottle of wine with the label of the campsite, as a farewell gift. Not much, but it gives the extra touch of good service.

We had one of the best holidays ever in this campsite, and would recommend it to anyone interested in seeing the Dordogne valley with all its mideval castles and villages, green forests and steep cliffs.

I would recommend going with a car or on motorcycle, since this is way out in the countryside. But if you're going to Dordogne, I'm sure you know that.

  • Liked — the pool area, the friendly staff, the restaurant and bar
  • Disliked — the campsite is a bit remote from any large cities
