My wife and I enjoyed five delightful days on this grand estate, Les Charmes de Carlucet. The ambiance, both inside and out, dripped with Dordogne-style luxury while our hosts, the Edgars, created the easiness of a home-away-from-home atmosphere. This expansive, walled property is replete with all the amenities necessary for a country vacation (family or lonesome traveler) and is situated in the middle of countless opportunities to experience the Dordogne. Mr. Edgar provided us with a long list of prospects that allowed us to partake in the foie gras, walnut harvest, truffles and wine that abounds in and around beautiful hill towns and villages. Across a short valley from Les Charmes lies a medieval church that gives added charisma to the immediate surroundings. The photographs presented on the Les Charmes website are inspiring enough but do not entirely capture the exquisite beauty of this estate.
We were provided a fully furnished apartment with a large patio that lacked nothing. Our hosts made restaurant recommendations and gave us tips regarding places we planned to visit. Sarlat is only a fifteen minute drive. We made our own breakfasts so we cannot comment directly about the quality of their breakfast but two lady guests told us that they enjoyed the personal touch put to delicious breakfasts the Edgars served them.
Les Charmes is as close to guaranteed satisfaction as possible. Martin B.
