“Hotel Cheda”

We were recommended this Hotel by some friends who had stayed there a few years before and although there wasn’t a major problem, it wasn’t the most relaxing of holidays.

The Hotel is rated a 2 star and the restaurant and some of the facilities area good but the rooms are a real let down. We had the room opposite the reception area and the curtain was so ill fitting you could see into the room and so we had to prop things against the window to keep it against the window. We did mention this to staff but they said although they know about it had not had time to fix the problem. We had also booked a room which said it would have sitting area (ie table & chairs) but it was so squashed we could not use it as it meant sitting next to the bed.
The restaurant is nice although the menu is quite limiting, approx one dish a day changed per night and as we had to book half board this was quite disapointing. They did have another menu but this was extra which when you have paid already you don't want to keep topping it up just for your evening meal. The staff were ok but not very friendly and not up to the standard we were led to believe existed. The main issue I had was there were several cats that roam around and are constantly passing through the restaurant area. I have a real issue with pets around food and although some of the staff tried to chase them out they have obviously allowed it to happen for some time for the cats to feel comfortable with it.
The pool is more of a quick dip area not big enough to swim in more hot tub size. Plenty of nice beached around so would suggest those instead.

On the whole it was an ok hotel but not a great find and very expensive all round for a 2 star.

“Good out of season”

We stayed the last two nights of our stay in Corsica at A Cheda and unfortunately it left a sour taste in our mouths after having stayed at two much nicer hotels.

The rooms are good value for money. We opted for their most expensive suites which are basically little bungalows which have been jazzed up with some impractical modern furniture teamed with some african inspired furniture. The bathroom was quite nice and specious but the mirror offered no views of my face as hung up very high, and no other mirrors on offer! The room also had a very strong smell of damp and it was the only hotel that we had sleepless nights in due to presence of mosquitos so a mosquite spray is highly recommended. Service is also inconsistent. Our towels did not get changed and we had to go and steal them from the pantry ourselves!!

The pool was highly disappointing, small, unkept and without visitors. The restaurant was a painful affair as it is trying hard to keep up the pretence of a gastronimique restaurant but comes with below average service which makes the whole dining experience laborious and at times a joke. We averaged an hour's wait between apperitif and amuse bouche! In high season the hotel makes dining at the restaurant compulsary and for this very reason I would not recommend staying there for more than 1 or two nights. The food is ok by the way but we would have preferred to eat at the many fresh fish restaurants.

In terms of location it is in between Bonifacio and Porto Vecchio so a car would be necessary to get to other restaurants or beaches.

Oh forgot to say the breakfast was terrible. The worse we had on the island. Poor quality, small choice, terrible service (you had to wait for ages for them to cook some sausages or bacon etc) dry stale bread and plenty of bees and mosquitos flying over everything!

I would recommend staying here if you are on a budget but only out of the peak season to avoid the compulsory half board.

“Charming hotel”

We have just stayed at L'Hotel A Cheda near Bonifacio, Corsica and we could not recommend it highly enough! It feels as if you are staying with friends, but friends who are very efficient and who cook brilliantly. It is a small hotel that has been lovingly restored inside and out. All the furnishings and fittings have been chosen with taste and a feel for the building. Patrick and Melanie who seem to be around 24/7 quickly make you feel at home and serve you with just the right mixture of efficiency and warmth. The food is absolutely divine and is served in delightful surroundings.
All in all, a hotel to chrish and to return to as often as funds allow!
