“I will never stay in that hotel ever again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2009

La Posada was refered as 'the best Copan has to offer" in my Lonely Planet Guide on Guatemala so I was expecting to find a comfortable, warm and welcoming hotel. Well, what a desapointement. While the gardens are very nice, the two rooms we were offered looked very old and had a very old fashion style. The sheets were so thin that you could see through them and the blankets were itchy. It was very cold and I almost froze to death the first night I stayed there. Luckyly I had extra blankets in my car which made the second night much warmer. My friends had a room on the main street and where woken up at 4.30 by the noise of cars and people queuing up by the G&T bank.

The second morning there was no hot water because the hotel was full.

The reception staff was not very friendly and service at the restaurant was very slow although courteous. One positive note, food was nice!

The rates are good but if you are looking for comfort look elsewhere!

In my opinion La Posada is not a hotel you should stay at if you are in Coban!

“Great Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2008

Very nice place, extremely friendly and dedicated staff (the owner personlly supported me when I had serious issues with my mobile.
The room was large and clean, the bathroom was okay (but no warm water).
The garden and the ambiente in total is very nice - a must to go there and to see it.
The noise was no problem for us -we were offered a room more away from the street but even after having decided to take a room in the main building we could sleep very well (room Nr. 9).
The restaurant is very good and has lots of different offers.

“A tranquil retreat? For the deaf!”

The hotel has a certain charm but its location is the main problem. Situated next to the main square and flanked by the main road in and out of town it is extremely noisy from the traffic at all times. The hotel is stretched along the main road and all rooms look out onto the road 1 metre away. The problem was exacerbated on our second night when people started queuing for the bank across the road at midnight (yes midnight). The queue partied all night under our window!

We booked via Aventuras Vacacionales,S.A of Antigua and this caused another problem. They failed to pay the hotel so we were forced to pay a second time for the room. A refund has been promised by the agent but has not yet been received.

“Lovely hotel in the middle of Coban”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2007

Hotel La Posada is located just off the main square of town. The rooms were very large and comfortable, and the multi-lingual staff were very helpful and friendly. They can help with arranging transport or tours with the local outfitters. Coban was a great place for us to base our excursion to Semuc Champey.

We paid 345Q (~$45) for a double (the room actually had one double bed and two single beds, in addition to a fireplace and a very sizable bathroom). The bed was comfortable and there was a nice garden courtyard. The shower took a little while to heat up, but after that was great (good water pressure and very clean). We ate dinner one night at the restaurant which had outdoor seating and good enchiladas.

We had a great time and would definitely stay at La Posada the next time we're in central Guatemala.

“The Most Elegant Hotel in Coban”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2007

Enchanting, romantic, and tranquil. My room has two four poster beds and a working fireplace for $30.

The hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens and its restaurant, while not up to International standards, is fine.

Dining alfresco is the best part of the dining experience.

Don't forget to visit the Mayan Museum.
