After researching a little about the town of Springdale, I found this one of 3 (that I know of) places to tent camp near Zion NP. Didn't choose the other place due to proximity to the park, and didn't camp in the park because I wanted a solid reservation booked. The NP was 1st come, 1st served at this time of year and this was too iffy for a first visit that would be 7-8 hours from home.
Needless to say, according to the previous reviews about staff, they were helpful, if not particularly warm. Wasn't a problem for my sister and I since we checked in and only required more interaction when buying more firewood. They didn't seem all too apologetic about charging $5 each for extra shower tokens when asked out of curiosity, but it turns out our shower didn't need them. Sweet! FYI, if you bring a bucket and fill it up with hot water from the faucets and take it too the shower stalls, this will suffice if necessary. We heard there are no showers available inside the park campground.
The view from this campground/ RV park/ budget hotel is ridiculous! We followed the advice of some other reviews and requested a river site and though during the weekdays we could see how this was possibly a bad spot next to that cement site, it made for an amazing first peak out of the tent in the morning: Red rock washed in the first rays of the sunlight, framed by green trees above and the flowing Virgin river beneath. Site itself was spacious, but bring a tent pad and a friendly smile since you will likely need to make friends with your close neighbors to the left a right. The fire pit was right next to our neighbors which made us reluctant to put out our fire for fear we'd send wet ash their way. Nothing like the rushing river sounds to lull you to sleep and gently wake you each day. One night though, the river got the better of us and had to make a trip to the stalls...this did however inspire an amazing 3AM slow shutter photo of the red rock with thousands of stars and trees just below. It rivals those of the daytime and the hikes inside Zion.
We will return to this campground and likely request a river site a little further away from the concrete spot if we come dring the weekdays just in case. Was a wonderful trip to a magnificent park in a quaint little town.
