The main lodge is wonderful, the cafeteria has excellent, reasonable food..the staff is accomodating..but the cabins are small and worn out. We had booked a "double" cabin w/ a single double bed as nothing else was available. As soon as I saw it I knew I couldn't spend four nights there. Way too small, carpets stained..privacy non-existent.Sink outside main bathroom..none inside main bathroom.
If you need personal space at all..this is not for you. Begged the staff for at least a cabin w/ two beds, they said they would try. Then wandered around. Stopped by the Old Faithful Inn.. beautiful but it was like a circus..crowded and honky tonk. Checked out the Snow Lodge (all these hotels are within walking distance). That is the best property there for quiet, and only one w/ (pricey, slow) internet. However, no view of Old Faithful.
A wonderful staff member at the Snow Lodge clued me in that the best way to see the park was to stay at different hotels each night. The distances are deceiving..roads are winding and there is much to see, so that if you stay in one place, you spend too much time retracing your steps. She booked us into Canyon Lodge and Yellowstone Lake Hotel.
By the time I returned to the Lodge, they had found us a cabin w/ two beds. So we stayed two nights, then moved onto the other properties. Once again, main lodge is wonderful, can't beat the views of Old Faithful, and cafeteria will surprise you! Cafeteria is not opened for breakfast but a snack/bar deli is. We had breakfast one morning at Old Faithful Inn. Overpriced and bad service.
