“Its the view, not the cabins”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

The main lodge is wonderful, the cafeteria has excellent, reasonable food..the staff is accomodating..but the cabins are small and worn out. We had booked a "double" cabin w/ a single double bed as nothing else was available. As soon as I saw it I knew I couldn't spend four nights there. Way too small, carpets stained..privacy non-existent.Sink outside main bathroom..none inside main bathroom.

If you need personal space at all..this is not for you. Begged the staff for at least a cabin w/ two beds, they said they would try. Then wandered around. Stopped by the Old Faithful Inn.. beautiful but it was like a circus..crowded and honky tonk. Checked out the Snow Lodge (all these hotels are within walking distance). That is the best property there for quiet, and only one w/ (pricey, slow) internet. However, no view of Old Faithful.

A wonderful staff member at the Snow Lodge clued me in that the best way to see the park was to stay at different hotels each night. The distances are deceiving..roads are winding and there is much to see, so that if you stay in one place, you spend too much time retracing your steps. She booked us into Canyon Lodge and Yellowstone Lake Hotel.

By the time I returned to the Lodge, they had found us a cabin w/ two beds. So we stayed two nights, then moved onto the other properties. Once again, main lodge is wonderful, can't beat the views of Old Faithful, and cafeteria will surprise you! Cafeteria is not opened for breakfast but a snack/bar deli is. We had breakfast one morning at Old Faithful Inn. Overpriced and bad service.

Room Tip: Two beds for two people!

“Great location, an ok but tiny cabin”

Although the date says November, we actually traveled in August 2010 (I waited too long to write the review...) The four stars are primarily based on the stunning and convenient location and the people. We found that, to a person, every one of the staff that we came in contacgt with were very friendly and helpful. The cabin was ok, but even smaller than we had expected. This turned out to be a problem because one of our buddies decided to join us on our trip there, we called and were assured an inflatable bed (they don't have rollaways) would fit ok, but I think he overstated the "ok" part. Don't expect to fit 3 people in one of the standard cabins! Anyway, we certainly did not let that interfere with our overall enjoyment of the Old Faithful area of Yellowstone. Despite the cabin size, how can you not love the excellent location? Sure, you're in row-upon-row of cabins surrounded by asphalt parking lots with no view of anything, but if you are spending much time in your cabin, you really should re-think your vacation priorities while at Yellowstone National Park. The Old Faithful area is quite large, but it is easy to walk among the Old Faithful Inn, the Snow Lodge, the Old Faithful Lodge and Old Faithful itself, as well as the visitors center (grand opening while we were there - neat!) and shops with provisions, gifts, etc. We had rented a car and were able to easily and quickly explore most of the gigantic park from the Old Faithful Lodge. We found the cafeteria in the Lodge to be just ok, although one friend said the elk chili was great; but be aware that the line for food can get quite long. We celebrated my birthday with dinner at the Obsidian Grill at the Snow Lodge and enjoyed great service and fine food. Don't waste your time with the Geyser Grill there, though: think McDonalds with even WORSE food... We also had dinner in the Old Faithful Inn Dining Room and really enjoyed it. The food and service were just fine. I've uploaded pictures that describe our stay pretty well. Don't miss out on the Old Faithful Inn tour - I have to say this was a true highlight. Our guide was charming, knowledgeable and personable. Would I stay at the Old Faithful Lodge cabins again? Maybe. But when we travel we are not traveling so we can stay locked in a fabulous hotel room! There are other options at Yellowstone, and I might explore them since we've "done" the Old Faithful Inn. But for the price (and it ain't cheap) and the location, this is not a bad place to stay.

“Right By Old Faithful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

The location cannot be beat as all cabins are a short distance from Old Faithful with some overlooking the Firehole River.

Even though we had made a reservation in January, we could not get one of the cabins with a private bathroom. The public facilities were close by, though, and very clean -- we did not encounter any waits. Our cabin was fully detached -- small, older and quite modest but with a high ceiling (it was not claustrophobic) and an oudoor stoop to sit on and enjoy the fresh Yellowstone night air. We had dinner in the cafeteria which was reasonably priced and overlooked Old Faithful. In fact, we were so close that we saw several eruptions.

In short, not luxury accommodation but location is everything!

Cute cabin with all what in a cabin should be. Not a luxus suite but a cabin has to be not luxury.
It was all clean.

“Comfortable even in adverse weather”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

Stayed 2 nights in May 2011 in cabin with ensuite. Heavy snowfalls and power outages (extended) were overcome by the friendly staff. Cabins were adequate for National park, Lodge facilities also good. Cafeteria provides cheap high volume food; for higher class eating and facilities look elsewhere (to the Old Faithful Inn for example)
