“Perfect Setting With Nature”

What can we say. The hotel is located in an area where wildlife appear right outside your window. We were on the main floor. Upon checking into our room, there was a cute cuddly bear toy that was encased in an environmental sleeve reminding patrons to conserve and respect Yellowstone National Park and all the beautiful surroundings. I purchased the bear and gave it to my new grand daughter with a letter which was to be opened when she is old enough to read. My letter said to her that I hoped the park will still be as pristine and beautiful as we experienced in 2011. Here's the best part of the hotel. No phones... no television... no radio... no loud bar music.... calm, quiet, relaxing. Peering out of our window, we saw elk lying down in the grass just a few feet from our window. So peaceful. The restaurants are a few steps away from the hotel, parking is free right across the street near the entrance. We had to go our car at night and the ranger stopped us because only 4 feet from our car was an elk who "was looking for a mate" and might be dangerous. We had to retreat back to the hotel showing respect for the animal. Great hotel, peaceful, worth visting time after time.

Room Tip: The rooms on the main floor give you an excellent view of wildlife peering right at you!

“Nice property to visit during Yellowstone's winter”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

The historic Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel is a great place to stay at during a winter visit to Yellowstone. The rooms are simple but adequate and and there is a restaurant on location so you don't have to drive for meals. Walking distance to the actual Mammoth Hot Springs and a short drive from the northwestern entrance to the park. The onsite rental facility for snowshoes and cross country skis help make this a great staging base for exploring all the park has to offer. The restaurant offers pretty good variety and takes hospitality seriously.
It is always nice to wake up with elk outside your room window as well...

Room Tip: Ask for a private bath.

“Location, Location, Location!!!!!”

Remember when you are going to Yellowstone you are escaping the modern world. I visited the hotel and stayed in the main buliding not the cabins in January 2012. The rooms are just a bit smaller than the average hotel room. It is a historical building and upgrades are minimal. There is no TV ,and the rooms have a minimum of electrical outlets Some outlets were 2 pronged so I suggest bringing a power strip and adapter for all the chargers. The rooms lead toward the Spartan side and they are clean, warm, and comfortable. The staff is fantastic. You are located in old Fort Yellowstone within a 5 minute walk to the terraces at Mammoth which are simply magical. You also have car access to the Lamar Valley for spotting wildlife during the winter. This hotel is the only one accessible by car via Gardner ,Montana in the winter months. The only other hotel open in the park is Old Faithful Snow Lodge which is located in the southern end of the park and can be accessed only by snow coach.

Room Tip: I always sleep on the top floor so there are no busy footsteps during the night.

“Historic Building - Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

The appearance is like entering a time warp back to the turn of the 20th century. Having said that it was very comfortable and although lacking in modern facilities, it was absolutely adequate and comfortable for my stay. Only problem was the electrical sockets were the old fashioned two pin type and no wifi. Reception said wifi will be available shortly.

“okay hotel in yellowstone national park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We spent two nights at the mammoth springs hotel in Yellowstone National Park in January. The hotel is old and the rooms are adquate for the price. The lighting in each room is minimal but the beds are comfortable with adequate covers.

The hotel sits in the middle of old Fort Yellowstone. You must walk across the street to get to the restaurant. This is fine in good weather but when there is a blizzard it is a cold walk.

We did the snowmobile ride to Old Faithful. I would only recommend this trip to people who love snowmobiling. It is over 100 miles roundtrip and if the weather is cold and snowy it makes for a long and very uncomfortable day.

I would recommend using the snow coaches or staying at the Snow lodge at Old Faithful.
